Publisher's Summary

When college student Jake is left for dead on the side of the road, he has one thing on his mind: Learn to defend himself against the men who gay-bashed him.

And fight back or die trying.

At his sister's suggestion, he tries self-defense courses. Little does he know when he asks the man to teach him, he'll be guarding more than his body, he'll be guarding his heart.

Aspiring MMA trainer Benjamin is on his last leg, literally. As a wounded warrior, he's scarred from a broken heart that has nearly broken his spirit. So when Jake approaches him for lessons and tells him his story, it touches his heart. The more time Jake and Benjamin spend together, the more they realize they're becoming best friends. The more time they spend together, the more they realize they can't live without each other. The more time they spend together, the more they realize they're falling in love. But Jake has a secret, one that could change everything....

They're step-brothers.

OH MY GAWD!!! SIMPLY AWFUL!!!

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

NOBODY will enjoy this book, unless you enjoy having a hot erotic gay novel read to you by your hoarse craggy-voiced old uncle. I couldn't go past the first chapter, because you guys SOOOO picked the wrong narrator....an 85 year old guy reading a story of young gay men---NO WAY---- I want a refund!!!!

What do you think your next listen will be?

anything that does not include this narrator

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of James Talbot?

anyone under the age of 30

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

COMPLETE disappointment....horrific choice of narrator

Any additional comments?

I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!! maybe the story is good- I wouldn't know... I could not get past the first chapter because of Grampaw's poor reading skills....YUCK!!

Horrible. Narrator is soooo wrong for this book

Where do I start. The story is so dry and written for grade schoolers. When the main character refers to the hot guys butt as a rear end it's so not for adults. This book could be hot if you gave it a major rewrite and dumped the narrator. The narrator grates on your last nerve before the first chapter is over. I CANT STAND THE NARRATION any Longer. Do not under any circumstances buy this book. I want my money back. Terrible narration and storyline.

Don’t waste your credit

It’s interesting to read other reviews. I didn’t actually notice the narrator as much as feeing confused about the storyline. The writing is disjointed and random. I’m also not certain the authors have ever lived in Portland because the random inaccuracies are jarring. I even jumped ahead hoping that there was something worth listening to... but then the creep factors got past my tolerance.

Disappointed

4 chapters in and I had to stop. If I wanted bad Sir/Boy porn I’d watch it online. Not sure what you would actually classify this as. In any case it wasn’t for me so I stopped listening.

Don’t waste your time.

I felt like I was listening to the soundtrack from a cheap porn video. It just wasn’t realistic. I put up with the first of the three books, but couldn’t listen to anymore. Felt like it was the first book written by somebody who wasn’t really a writer.

Mediocre at best

The Character development is probably the only good thing about these books. The stories do not hang together. Personally Talbot has a very grating voice.

Couldn’t get through it

I just couldn’t listen to the narrator. I don’t know if it was totally his voice that ruined it for me, but the story also seemed weak and silly. Maybe m/m lite.

Unbearable Narration

The story premise sounds good but the narration completely sucked. The MCs are in their 20/30s but the narration sounds like old fuddy-duddy with no affliction. With the right Narrator I think the audiobook would better.

disjointed and wrong narrator

I made it most of the way thru book 1. its disjointed. plot holes abound. I agree with other reviewers. this was the wrong narrator for the intended characters. I honestly thought the boxer main char was in his 40s until his age was stated explicitly . please choose new narrator, get an editor, and do a complete re release. its bad, real bad. but its still not the worst thing I've read. it does have potential.

as good as the ebooks

The story is always full stars, because if I wouldn't like the story as ebook, I wouldn't listen to the audiobook. I can't listen to an audiobook without knowing the book, that's not possible for me. The performance from the narrator is also very important for me. I can't listen to a lot, because my English as a non-native-speaker isn't so perfect to follow a whole story over hours, when the narrator speaks too fast or too sloppy. Normally I have to SEE the person, who is talking to me in English. It took me a little bit, to come into the narrator, but at the end, it worked. I only have to take a few breaks between. I'm just not yet finish with the book, I’m over the half, but I listen enough to give a review. PLEASE READ MY RATING SYSTEM!!! To my ratings: 5* - very very good it's like an A+ 4* - very good and will be often re-listening it's like an A 3* - it's more then a one-time-listening. it's like a B

Trilogy

There is something about Book One, I Got You, that brings me back to it again and again. It is not the best written book by a long way but the story, told from Jake's point of view, has something about it that draws me in. It is the first Jamie Lake book that I read and I love the relationship between Jake and Ben I am glad that Book 2 isn't included here, because it is set before I Got You and has Ben in a HEA relationship with another man. I never quite get this! Book 3 is a prequel which explores the relationship between Jake's best friend, Alberto, and Jake's stepfather. Issues with honesty seems to be a recurring theme in these books, and this one is a doozy! By the end, there is a believable HFN situation but from Book One, we know there more for them to face. Book 4 is a standalone (I believe). The standard of writing improves with each book and this story flows better. There is, once again, an issue with honesty, but the relationship between Steve and his Silver Daddy is developed enough for a believable resolution to be possible. The narration was difficult to get into at first...quite over the top in places...but had settled to a more professional style by Book 4.

Like a comic without pictures

All writing is two dimensional unless the imagination is engaged. The reader has an exaggerated style which, together with the simplistic writing, is like a comic without pictures. It didn't work for me.
