Publisher's Summary

National Book Awards 2014: Crime/Thriller Book of the Year

Can you commit the perfect crime?

Pilgrim is the code name for a man who doesn't exist. The adopted son of a wealthy American family, he once headed up a secret espionage unit for US intelligence. Before he disappeared into anonymous retirement, he wrote the definitive book on forensic criminal investigation. But that book will come back to haunt him. It will help NYPD detective Ben Bradley track him down. And it will take him to a run-down New York hotel room where the body of a woman is found facedown in a bath of acid, her features erased, her teeth missing, her fingerprints gone. It is a textbook murder - and Pilgrim wrote the book.

What begins as an unusual and challenging investigation will become a terrifying race against time to save America from oblivion. Pilgrim will have to make a journey from a public beheading in Mecca to a deserted ruin on the Turkish coast via a Nazi death camp in Alsace and the barren wilderness of the Hindu Kush in search of the faceless man who would commit an appalling act of mass murder in the name of his god.

This is now the entire audiobook, not in two parts.

Steam Train

Would you listen to I Am Pilgrim, Volume 1 again? Why?

Starts off with a bang and you’re captured straight away. The mystery of the two stories and how they will combine kept me intrigued the whole time. Then towards the end of the book it comes home like a 'steam train'. I went straight to my laptop to get the second volume as soon as I finished.

Great read

Good plot, very engrossing. Only fault is that the main character is almost faultless and some parts of the plot were a little far fetched but definitely recommended

5 Star rating for me

One of my very few 5 Star books. Ripper of a story and flawles narration, who could ask for more.

long but very detailed and fast paced

Loved Pilgram. Coming from a Jason Bourne fan it was really well written. While it is close to 900 pages long it really covers every angle instead of just completing a murder mystery miraculously. lots of it doesn't wrap up until the end. Entertaining.

Fantastic thriller - although a long book, it moves forward quickly and keeps you on your toes. Highly recommended!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book

I wasn’t sure about this book. I bought it because of a recommendation from a friend the reviews didn’t fit my usual reading choice but she insisted I would like it. Well I did, I enjoyed every twist and turn and now I have that flat feeling you get when a book finishes and you could have gone on and on.

stunning

Un-put-downable. A brilliant and gripping story, heart in mouth suspense. Just stunning. Ignore any review that doesn't give this 5 stars, this is one book you need to read.

Entertaining pulp thriller - but the accents hahaha

Kinda like watching 24. You know that it is is ridiculous, you know that it is morally bankrupt, you know that the racial stereotypes are offensive and you know the exactly what is coming next (well, you do if you either read modern thrillers or are aware of the principle of Chekhov’s Gun). But that doesn’t stop it being really good fun and entertaining.

As for the performance, yeah, in general it’s good, but the accents he tries are pants wettingly funny. The Arabic accent is pretty generic, but it is the Australian and English accents that are so bad that you miss what is being read because you’re laughing so much.

Anyway, it’s no work of Dickens, but it is very enjoyable all the same
