About this listen

The basis for the film starring Academy Award nominee Will Smith, I Am Legend is a classic of horror and suspense.

In I Am Legend, a terrible plague has decimated the world, and those who were unfortunate enough to survive are transformed into bloodthirsty creatures of the night. Robert Neville is the last living man on earth. Every other man, woman, and child has become a vampire, and they are all hungry for Neville’s blood. By day, he is the hunter, stalking the sleeping undead through the abandoned ruins of civilization. By night, he barricades himself in his home and prays for the dawn. How long can one man survive in a world of vampires?

Richard Matheson’s chilling tale is a white-knuckle ride into a world of darkness and terror.

love this book! Much better than the movie of the same name. The narrater did an excellent job as well. Very suspenseful. Would highly recommend.

I was taken out of the story every time Robert had an inner monologue about his struggle with being horny and sexually tempted around certain female characters. It was even more weird when he had these thoughts around an UNCONSCIOUS woman…aside from that the voice work is great and the story is decent if a bit short. Very nice twist at the end that completely tilts the story on its head.

Decent Story with some Weird Moments..

I know it was a different voice actor but it sounded like him. Meh story. Felt too melodramatic.

I am one of those people who had the movie too firmly in my brain to appreciate this. I wish I had tackled it with a clean slate. Enjoyed the style of the writing... but I think I liked the path that the movie took more than that of the book/ audiobook.

I liked the movie better (insert shame)

Felt dated.Like the film it could do with a re write. Vampires, garlic and wooden stakes are no match for a zombie.

This genre has moved on a lot since the 1950s

Brilliant performance, really sucked me in and got me hooked. Weird choice of cover though, as the movie has little to do with the story told in the book.

Amazing performance by Robertson Dean

The setting supplies a really interesting context for Robert's introspection. Some may find his thoughts uncomfortable but they reveal a lot about the character and lend sincerity. The text is a little dated but easily appreciated for the timeless themes it explores.
The discussion of human spirit and motivation is very engaging but the character of Robert did not evoke much emotion in me.
I can tell why this book had such an impact and I'd recommend it to any sci-fi fan.

As for the performance, I felt the narrator was quite good and gave Robert a lot of character.

Very good, definitely worth a listen
