About this listen

Torn from her home by a reality-warping power, Zalia strives to survive in a frozen world of strange beasts, mysterious magics, and a kingdom at war.

Zalia Taori is well equipped for life in the remote forest valley she calls home. But while tracking a deer through her snowy stomping grounds—armed with her hunting bow and excellent knowledge of wild plants—she comes across a warp in the fabric of reality. She suddenly finds herself in an unfamiliar land where she must learn to survive as both predator and prey.

As Zalia explores this forbidding new terrain, she encounters peculiar herbs, terrifying monsters, mysterious rituals, and some unexpected friends. She enters a world of classes and levels, where making the right move can bestow new powers—and a high-ranking bunny can be a badass opponent.

But just as this lone hunter gets her bearings, she discovers trouble brewing across the landscape. From a safe perch, Zalia spies opposing armies gathering their defenses. As knights and mages run headlong into battle, she knows she won't be able to keep her distance forever . . .

I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this audiobook. The main character is an interesting introvert, her friends are all different but likeable in their own way and the story, I didn't find it predictable and was surprised about where the story ventured.

My initial thought when starting this audio book was how can they possibly make an introvert who prefers her own space and living in the environment, with a focus on hunting and herbalism interesting, Worry not, I was not bored for even a single minute though. They do push it with statistics readouts, those I did skip ahead at times. Anyhow, I highly recommend you give this a listen 5 stars all the way.

A word on the narrator: It was interesting hearing a fellow Aussie narrating the books I enjoy and they do a great job, thanks.

one further note on the relationships or lack there of in this book.
One aspect of this book I enjoy is that unlike many other books in this genre, besides friendships, relationships in the form of love isn't at all a focus. Besides a very natural inclusion in her turning down light advance from a male soldier and that was for two reasons, firstly, she wasn't particularly interested in a relationship with anyone and besides that, she isn't interested in men. I am very happy about that, I do wish the fact that it's an LGBTQ+ book was acknowledged in the book tag information. Either way, its welcome, we need more action LitRPG's that happen to have a lesbian protagonist, its all too rare and finding the good books isn't easy. In this case, It is such a book and I hope she find somone who fits her personality later in the series preferably still as a minor focus.

With such an ending. How could i not buy book 2.

For me in any case, this was my first go at LitRPG, and as a gamer myself I found it easy enough to understand the direction and logic behind the development of abilities, even if it was occasionally a bit much to hear in audiobook fashion. Even so, this was an enjoyable and well presented story that I would recommend.

An enjoyable and light introduction to the LitRPG genre

Congratulations! if i have to hear that word one more time i will go insane, good job narrator putting up with that crap. Overall very basic book, a lot of time skips with little to no training or explanation on things. Her skill leveling pace seems unearned as it was glossed over and then was given a 5 minute stat dump. The actual story is pretty good

Stat read outs were horrible
