Not many have lived as many lives as Archie Roach - stolen child, seeker, teenage alcoholic, lover, father, musical and lyrical genius, and leader - but it took him almost a lifetime to find out who he really was. Roach was only two years old when he was forcibly removed from his family. Brought up by a series of foster parents until his early teens, his world imploded when he received a letter that spoke of a life he had no memory of.

Stolen from his mother and placed into institutional care when he was only a few months old, Uncle Jack was raised under the government's White Australia Policy. The loneliness and isolation he experienced during those years had a devastating impact on him that endured long after he reconnected with his Aboriginal roots and discovered his stolen identity. Even today he feels like an outsider, a loner, a fringe dweller.

Balladeer, bushman, soldier, foreign correspondent - the remarkable life of Australia's greatest storyteller. A. B. ‘Banjo’ Paterson is rightly recognised as Australia’s greatest storyteller and most celebrated poet, the boy from the bush who became the voice of a generation. He gave us our unofficial national anthem, ‘Waltzing Matilda’, and treasured ballads such as ‘The Man from Snowy River’ and ‘Clancy of the Overflow’, vivid creations that helped to define our national identity.

Story
Tim Rogers of You Am I has always been a complicated man: a hard-drinking musician with the soul of a poet; a flamboyant flâneur; a raconteur, a romantic and a raffish ne'er-do-well. In this offbeat, endearing memoir, Tim walks us through years jam-packed with love, shame, joy, enthusiasms, regrets, fights, family—and music, always music. A work of real grace and tenderness, Detours is often impossibly sad and beautiful—but also full of wit, wordplay and punching jolts of larrikin energy to make you laugh out loud.

This is the powerful, untold story of two of the three members of Silverchair, Australia's most awarded musical act. From their beginnings in Ben Gillies' garage, this trio of high school kids from Newcastle, New South Wales, became famous with their smash-hit single 'Tomorrow', setting them on a path to domination of the Australian charts, worldwide touring and fame. So much has been written about Silverchair over the years but very little has been said by the band's members.

In this luminous memoir, a true American icon looks back on his celebrated life and career. His body of work is arguably the most morally significant in cinematic history, and the power and influence of that work are indicative of the character of the man behind the many storied roles. Sidney Poitier here explores these elements of character and personal values to take his own measure: as a man, as a husband and a father, and as an actor.

Publisher's Summary
Paul Kelly is a uniquely gifted storyteller, and here, using his lyrics as starting points, he reads stories of his life and his songs, including "Before Too Long", "To Her Door", "Leaps And Bounds", "Don't Start Me Talking", "Dumb Things", "From Little Things Big Things Grow" and "How to Make Gravy". Mirroring the structure of his legendary A to Z shows - where he performs around a hundred of his songs alphabetically over four nights - Kelly describes the highs and lows of performing, the art of songwriting, being on the road with the band, tales of his childhood, family, friends and fellow musicians.
He is then joined by special guests as some of Australia's finest actors - Cate Blanchett, Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Judy Davis, and Ben Mendelsohn - each read a selected chapter.
Playful and honest, insightful and intimate, How to Make Gravy is an irresistible reflection on both the big and little things in life.

Paul Kelly warts and all
Would you consider the audio edition of How to Make Gravy to be better than the print version?
This audio edition makes the story come to life and is much more memorable than the print version could ever be.
What did you like best about this story?
The honesty and poignancy Paul brings to this life he has led up to now, may he live to write many more songs and tales.
Have you listened to any of Paul Kelly’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have only listened to his music and performances on CD and TV, so cannot compare this epic tale.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were many moments that moved me , particularly the part when his mother passed away, it was very moving , sad and joyful for a life lived well.
Any additional comments?
Paul's honest account of his life to date, the good parts and the dark bad parts , told alphabetically like his performances of late make this a story well remembered.

Would you consider the audio edition of How to Make Gravy to be better than the print version?
Paul Kelly's A-Z Recordings is a great summary of a fantastic songwriter's career. The accompanying book is also illuminating, thoughtful and funny - and having Paul as the reader for the audio version is a treat.
