I loved Sophie Irwin’s previous book, but this release was a real disappointment. I listened via audiobook and found it grating from the start. It was difficult to tell whether the endless displays of irritable behaviour in the plot were simply weak writing, or whether the childlike delivery and stilted phrasing of the narration made it worse (I strongly suspect the latter).

Whatever the reason, I gave up at chapter nine. Something I have never done before. For fans of regency romance, this one may prove more frustrating than charming

Cringeworthy and grating
