How to Change Your Mind is a report from what could very well be the future of human consciousness, written and read by Michael Pollan.

When LSD was first discovered in the 1940s, it seemed to researchers, scientists and doctors as if the world might be on the cusp of psychological revolution. It promised to shed light on the deep mysteries of consciousness, as well as offer relief to addicts and the mentally ill. But in the 1960s, with the vicious backlash against the counter-culture, all further research was banned. In recent years, however, work has quietly begun again on the amazing potential of LSD, psilocybin and DMT. Could these drugs in fact improve the lives of many people? Diving deep into this extraordinary world and putting himself forward as a guinea-pig, Michael Pollan has written and read a remarkable history of psychedelics and a compelling portrait of the new generation of scientists fascinated by the implications of these drugs.

'His approach is steeped in honesty and self-awareness. His cause is just, his thinking is clear, and his writing is compelling' - Washington Post

'An easy-going humane generosity ... mischievous self-regard ... as if Henry David Thoreau had had an encounter with Woody Allen and never been quite the same since' - Simon Schama

Brilliant

I cannot begin to explain just how good this book is. The subject matter is so well researched. The writing style is amazing and Michael Pollan as narrator is just fantastic. As a trainee psychiatrist, I learnt so much more about my profession and yes, got a little bit excited about about what this means for our profession and for our patients (and for the rest of humanity).

I'll be listening to this one again for sure. Absolutely the best book I've listened to this year, hands down.

The Best Book i have ever read

Times are changing and this book has come at the perfect time. like my heading says.. its the best.
Get it, you wont be disappointed.. The peoples accounts of their trips alone have impacted me in a way that I don't think I need to try psychedelics. Thank you Michael Pollan. 5 stars.

highly recommend!

I loved this book. Pollan reexamines role of psychadelics not only for medical purpose, but also how they might be of benefit for "healthy normals". Must read.

Thoroughly impressed

I would recommend this to anyone interested in finding new ways to understand themselves or the world around them. I saw Michael Pollan on the Joe Rogan Experience and started listening to the book right after the podcast.

Comprehensive look at the benefits of psychedelics

Pollan is easy to listen to with well placed comedy to break up the history lesson, his personal experiences with different compounds and an unreserved openness about his hesitations.

A journey that everyone should try once.

Fascinating story of the authors journey and their investigation into the world of psychedelics and their real world worth. Plus the narrator is fantastic, 10/10.

an incredibly easy listen on a fascinating subject

an incredibly easy listen about a fascinating subject. Michael expands, and explores the details in his and others experiences under the influence of various psycho active drugs, all I might add, now, after listening to the book, I would rather consider them 'conciousness altering" drugs.
As the story unfolds you become aware of the amazing potential for healing and psychological wellbeing, not only those who I'll but even thise in the 'not sick' healthy catagory.
Michael succinctly outlines the history of psychedelics and takes you on a journey to now and the changes in attitude toward these "drugs" that hopefully will lead to the broader use and the end of so much suffering through mental illness and depression.
The evidence is compelling.

Relevant for this age - Modern medicine & healing

I loved hearing the contraversial science behind psychedelics and how they can be used to suppoort us in a modern setting. It's obvious these methods of healing have been utilised for years by tribes and ancient cultures in sacred contexts. It's fascinating to see how these ancient medicines are now being used and how they could be further utilised to supoort and even assist modern medicine, specifically for those suffering with mental health concerns. The information this book provided useful information and case studies on many different plant medicines. The information about 'Iboga' and Addiction is amazing! Thank you for spreading awarness about these medicines. Such awareness will bring great healing for many!
