Publisher's Summary

Sequel to the number one New York Times best seller. Sarah J. Maas' sexy, groundbreaking Crescent City series continues with this second instalment.

Bryce Quinlan and Hunt Athalar have made a pact. As they process the events of the spring, they will keep things platonic until the solstice. But can they resist when the crackling tension between them is enough to set the whole of Crescent City aflame?

And they are not out of danger yet. Dragged into a rebel movement they want no part of, Bryce, Hunt and their friends find themselves pitted against the terrifying Asteri - whose notice they must avoid at all costs. But as they learn more about the rebel cause, they face a choice: stay silent while others are oppressed or fight. And they've never been very good at staying silent.

In this sexy, action-packed sequel to the number one best seller House of Earth and Blood, Sarah J. Maas weaves a captivating story of a world about to explode - and the people who will do anything to save it.

You are not ready for this!

SJM did it again. Just when I thought that things are just low key simple. Whew! No one is ever ready for this. The writing style has always been incomparable and there was never a dull moment with the author's books. The world and character building were astounding as ever. I enjoyed the characters more even the secondary and newly introduced ones. I could never choose as which ones to swoon over. The new pairings are indeed well done and I found myself fan-girling so hard over the newcomers. The ending is to die for and I am unsure as to how I will feel right now! Sarah, YOU DID NOT! My heart!

Overall, it is highly recommended as this is one of my mist anticipated books this year. I love the writing style and everything in between. There was less smut and more substance on the story and character development which I am overjoyed. The book cover is an auto-buy and I'm so looking forward to the 3rd book!

The narration is brilliant. Overall okay story.

I loved the first book and while I loved the character development in this, the second book in the series, the sex scenes are over the top and I really had to skip it. There are parts where I questioned whether I was listening to a fantasy story or erotica. Rather than adding to the story, to my mind, it detracted from it.

Aside from that I didn't mind the story.

The narration is brilliant.

Long Awaited,,,

I couldn't wait to listen/read this book. I loved the first book and the second book didn't disappoint.

The story starts from the end of the first book and Bryce manages to get herself, Hunt and Ruin in all sorts of trouble.

Well worth a read as its really enjoyable. If I had any complaints its that now I am going to have to wait for book three.

Narration was fantastic as well.

Holy wowzas! That ending!

This was a classic SJM book full of strong female leads and hot men. I enjoyed it, although it still didn't come close to her ACOTAR series for me. The ending though...wow!

Average

I absolutely loved the first instalment of this book, but sadly, this one didn’t captivate me like it did. It felt like a whole happened without anything happening at all. There were some nice classic Bryce twists, and some really nice development of side characters. I wasn’t impressed however with the progression of this story, but I wasn’t disappointed either. Keen to see where it takes me next.

P*rn with a plot

I like smut, but man was this excessive. I read another review that this book is as if Bryce were Feyre/ Aelin in one and it wasn't far off. SJM whaaat. probably my least favourite of all her books.

Loved it! Brilliant reading. Felt the story occasionally got a bit bogged down in detail but the reading drew me in so I couldn't wait to get back to it. Looking forward to no 3!

Could have been great…

I love the science fiction fantasy part of this book. It would have been a 5 star review but the excessive porn in it spoils it.

Nothing short of PERFECT

This is book 2 in the Crescent City series by the hugely talented Sarah J Maas. She literally can’t write a bad story. What an epic OMG moment and cliffhanger that is to end all cliffhangers. I need book 3 immediately.

You must read book 1, and honestly I wish I had re read before going into this one. So much is going on, but you want to immerse yourself in it all, and drink up every little bit of information.

Bryce made the drop and saved the city, and is now the star born princess, much to her disgust as that is one title she doesn’t want. She is so down to earth and caring, yet kick ass and sarcastic. The only rules she follows are those in her gut and her heart.

Her relationship with hunt goes to the next level, and they face many challenges. Especially with her determination to run head first into danger, just to protect those in need.

This is a long read but let me tell you, when it ended I was utterly devastated. You could keep on reading for hours or days more.

This will not disappoint and do not let my mention of a cliffhanger put you off. I was on the edge of my seat and shouting oh. My. God with a cheesy smile on my face.

Wish I could give this more. Epic 5/5 stars. Please Sarah, I want some more.

Can't wait for the 3rd!

I did not enjoy this book as much as the 1st one. I struggled to keep going with the rather laborious plot. Narration was excellent. Disappointing end but I await a thrilling finale.

Amazing on all fronts

Love this series in general. This book is just so good, the story, the twists, the romance LOVELOVELOVE. This series is def the best in the YA/romance/fantasy genre. I would even say it’s better than the ACOTAR series. Just so good. Cannot wait for the next book🥲

800 pages too long

This is the highly anticipated sequel to House of Earth and Blood, however for me it was a massive disappointment.
I switched to the audio because I was struggling to get through the book physically, but the audio wasn't a lot better. A good 400 pages could have simply been cut; the mystery is solved within about two pages and then it turns out that this story isn't even relevant to the plot. Also we are meant to believe that Bryce is 10 steps ahead of everyone, which is much like Aelin in The Throne of Glass series.
I didn't like the dialogue, and the relationship between Bryce and Hunt just didn't seem to gel in this book. I did enjoy the last 100 pages or so, and I am intrigued by the ending as I haven't yet read A Court of Thorns and Roses series.
