House of Lies and Sorrow: Fae of Rewyth Book 1

Dance with the Fae Prince meets Cruel Beauty in this Young Adult Arranged Marriage Fae Fantasy.

Jade Farrow will die tomorrow. Her fate was decided years ago, when her useless father made a deal with the greedy fae king to save his own life. Now, she is being sent to marry one of the five ruthless fae princes. The only problem is that she is not the first human to marry a fae prince. And like every human wife before her, Jade is going to be killed before she can find a way out.

Malachi Weyland is the heir to the fae throne. It’s the reason his brothers have despised him all these years, and it’s the reason his father is adamant on finding him a human wife. Malachi has one job, and that is to unite the fae and human lands. But Malachi has a secret, and it’s one that gives him his rightful name amongst both the human and fae lands: The Prince of Shadows.

Jade and Malachi are faced with life-or-death challenges as Jade is thrown into Malachi’s magical world. Will she die just like every wife before her? Or will Malachi, the same fae who is feared across all of Rewyth, be the one to save her life?

Show no weakness. Yield no mercy. House of Lies and Sorrow is a fast-paced, arranged-marriage story between born enemies who are forced to work together. Readers who love slow-burn, angsty enemies-to-lovers stories between a broody fae prince and a stubborn human bride will love this magical first installment of the Fae of Rewyth series!

Good story, bad narration

The male narrator made me want to stab myself in the ears with a pair of scissors. His voice is so grating and he finished every sentence with the same inflection, almost like it was a robot voice. I read the male parts instead of listened because the voice is so horrible, but that made it harder for me to finish the book as I like to listen while I work. The female narrator did a great job. I recommend skipping this one on audible and get the kindle version instead.

Good story, male narrator was rough

I was hoping for spicier, but overall, I thought it was a decent read/listen. The male narrator chose the worst voice for Mal. It was slow and throaty, like he was trying to sound sexy but instead, it just sounded awful. I read over all of the Malachi chapters on Kindle Unlimited so that I didn't have to listen to the male's voice.

Make narrator was a struggle bus

The books seemed a little rushed in the plot line. I just finished ACOTAR series so maybe that’s why I’m hypercritical of the plot line. Also, the male narrator was terrible. Spoke in sighs and weird inflections. Just read it instead of downloading!

Don't download

The women that narrates is fantastic. The man that narrates Malachi is awful. It is so distracting. He has zero emotion and ends each sentence with a sigh or even a question? I don't know.... but it wasn't working for him. I ended up muting all of Malachi's parts and just reading it. which was annoying because it was ever other chapter. The women who narrates is amazing .... but he ruins it. DO NOT GET THE AUDIBLE VERSION!!! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

Not a deep character development

I wanted this to be so good but was completely disappointed. Maybe I’m just used to reading books where the authors are very skilled at character development, to the point of sharing the emotions of those characters, and this just didn’t do that for me. And the story had little depth, so this was very anticlimactic to me. It gave off ACOTAR vides in the beginning as well, but then it was to one note through out the story development. :( and then the ending just didn’t make sense and it felt rushed. Idk I feel terrible about not liking it.

AWFUL narration

I’m only an hour in, and I’m really not sure I can finish. The female narrator is great, but the male narrator is truly the worst I’ve ever heard. I wish I could tell him to drop the bedroom voice and just talk normally. It’s just terrible to listen to…weirdly whiney and breathy at the same time.

Good story

The plot is good and the female voice actress is great but the male counterpart is terrible. He reads every sentence the same. Kind of like a brooding robot. You start to tune out what he’s saying and miss parts of the story.

I’m still listening but,,,,

I like the book story and banter , however the male narrator is not it! No emotion and sometimes he spoke in run in sentences , used the same inflection for everything he makes it hard to listen.

not a fan

I really struggled to finish this book. I normally love fantasy books and read them cover to cover on a daily basis, but this time, it was just an eeee plot wasn't good. If he's so powerful, why not just torture the dad to tell the truth.

The voice!

The man’s voice was a bit hard in the beginning but loved it at the end.

Absolutely Gripping

This story was exactly what I needed! Blackwood weaves the world of the fae and the mystical so beautifully that I found myself lost in the story for hours on end. Malachi was frustrating and alluring, and Jade was both strong and vulnerable, and their contrasts seemed to make the longing between them even more delicious!

If you enjoy ACOTAR (and want a small taste of The Hunger Games mixed in), but want to skip the hundreds of pages of world building, Blackwood has it covered, but please don’t sit here and think that is all this is. This is a beautiful story of love and betrayal, trust and heartache, and finding strength in the love of someone you hate to want, but want all the same.

The performances of the narrators added so much depth and delight to the story, and I have to say Corvin King perfected that growly timbre that is so perfectly Mal! It was an incredible feeling being able to immerse myself into this story for a couple of days, and listen to it unfolding so beautifully.

I LOVED IT.
