About this listen

The new thriller from the master of psychological suspense.

She’s a murderer. Everyone knows she killed Stuart Rees - why else would his dead body be found in her shed? So now Tabitha is in prison, awaiting trial. Coming back to the remote coastal village where she grew up was a mistake. She didn’t fit in then, and she doesn’t fit in now. That day is such a blur, she can’t remember clearly what happened. There is something she is missing, something important. She only knows one thing. She is not capable of murder. And the only one she can trust to help her out of this situation is herself. So she must fight. Against the odds. For her life.

Beautifully written about prejudice, loneliness and fighting spirit, this new audiobook by Nicci French is shocking, twisty and utterly compelling.

Critic Reviews

"Great writing, razor-sharp plotting, and powerful characterisation. I defy anyone to see the ending coming." (Cara Hunter)

"Part ingenious locked-room mystery. Part you’ve-got-the-wrong-person nightmare drama. Part intricate memory game. Yet all seamlessly woven together. French’s best book yet." (A J Finn)

"Clever, compelling, original and twisty." (Erin Kelly)

Loved both the story line & the narrator. If the narrator is awful it can destroy a good story

Great story

I ended up finishing this in just under two days. It was very easy to listen to and I felt connected to the main character. The narrator does a fantastic job at conveying the emotions, allowing the listener to picture the scene as it is being read out. Overall its get a 4/5 from me, and I will most likely listen to it again at some point.

Not so much of a thriller but a slow burn who don’t it. Enjoyed it and kept me listening.

What a chore this book is! I honestly don’t understand what all the fuss is about. I didn’t even finish listening to it. I found I didn’t care in the slightest about what happened to Tabitha or why. This was my first novel by Nicci French, and I dare say it will be my last.

No. Just no.

This is slow to the point of being frustrating and the fact that the protagonist is hard to like or engage with makes time drag even more. But once it hits the courtroom the story becomes compelling so it is worth getting that far. The resolution to the mystery was a bit convenient but I am glad we got answers as it could easily have been left unclear. The judge is amazing!

Slow burn
