Story
Imagine getting out of the bath and finding blood in four of your six rooms. That’s not the plot of a B-movie. That’s real life. There’s a reason you’re drawn to horror films, and they’re not as far-fetched as you thought. FBI data shows that four out of 10 homicides and six out of 10 rapes go unsolved, and this isn’t just down to shoddy police work or a failing system. Sometimes, there just is no rational explanation. Strange things happen every day, and many of them are never reported. But then, many of them don’t end in horror.

Story
Every story, no matter how far fetched, has a nugget of truth in it. Just 18 percent of Americans admit to having seen a ghost, but we’re all connected to the spiritual world: a haunting could happen to any of us at any time. Have you ever seen an unexplainable shadow, or a brief flicker of a face in a window when no one was around? We find logical explanations to account for strange happenings all the time, but the truth is, ghost stories don’t come from nowhere.

Story
Death comes in many forms, and medical professionals have seen them all. The first pair of hands to hold us when we enter this world and the last to comfort us when we leave it usually belong to a member of the healing profession. Where one finds death and drama, one also finds ghosts. Small wonder that doctors, nurses, paramedics, and the patients that they treat regularly encounter the spirits of the departed. Sometimes, those spirits are friendly. But not always...
Publisher's Summary
Bizarre murders and disturbing disappearances that remain unsolved till this day!
When a crime goes unsolved, it can be frustrating and heartbreaking. The victims never get justice, and their loved ones never get closure. But when the crime scenes are disturbing and downright bizarre, it can leave with a feeling of uneasiness.
Best-selling author Hannah J. Tidy will introduce you to some of the most fascinating cases that remain unsolved and continue to perplex us to this day.
"The Girl Scout Slayings" - Most will agree that nothing is quite as horrific as when grievous harm comes to children. Unfortunately, we are all too aware there are some individuals out there who make it their mission in life to hurt the little ones.
These inhuman deeds are made even worse when the culprit remains beyond the reach of justice. One such tragedy shocked Mayes County, Oklahoma, on June 13, 1977. The girls were staying at camp along with many other children and camp personnel. One night, a counselor was suddenly awakened by strange screams, the likes of which she had never heard before. The counselor later described the sound as an unidentified animal resembling some kind of a cross between a bullhorn and a frog.
The woman proceeded outside to investigate with a flashlight. The low, disturbing sound continued, stopping only when she would flash the light. After the noise stopped and nothing out of the ordinary could be seen, the counselor decided to go back to sleep. What she discovered the next morning would change her life forever.
As she approached the children’s tents, you won’t believe what she finds!

Not good
Being a true crime enthusiast I knew almost all stories in the book and I found the author really didn't do any of them justice. key pieces of information was left out of many of the cases covered and all were so rushed over I really don't see what the point of covering them was in the first place. now to the narrator.... he spoke way to fast and sounds like a computer. No emotion, soul or atmosphere given to the story which only added to the weak book in my opinion.

Unsolved Deaths
I’m mildly interested in true crime, thanks to my wife, but really enjoy strange and unsolved cases. Was a big fan of the TV show Unsolved Mysteries so this felt like a narrated version of that. Lots of weird things happening in these stories. As typical with collections like these some are well known and others are not. Each story is told quite well and provides all the relevant information except for a conclusive conclusion, as these are all unsolved.
As with any collection, you don't get enough of the stories you really like and I'm now on to do my own research. These definitely have some horrific stories that I winced a bit while listening to. I am always amazed at how deranged some people can be. I have to say I really enjoyed listening to these stories and it made a five hour drive go by super quick. These stories will keep you awake trying to understand and decipher the clues.
The narrator did a good job. Since this is told as a matter of fact story and doesn’t involve characters I was quite happy with the narration. I felt it worked quite well for this and have enjoyed his narration in the past and hope to hear more in the future.

Alarming Collection of True Stories
I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
As they say truth is stranger than fiction, but in the case of these stories truth is scarier than fiction. These stories are not only scary, but they make you think about how your decisions in life can make you a target for a disturbed criminal. Although unsettling, it is fascinating to hear about cases of murder that aren't widely known. If you enjoy true stories about murder and mayhem this is a perfect book for you!

Some new stories I haven’t heard before
I am leaving this voluntary review after receiving a free copy of this book at my request.
As a true crime fanatic I’m always down to listen to a collection of “horror” stories. That being said, horror tends to be a hit or miss for me. It seems that the same handful of stories are continuously being retold again and again, nearly word for word with no new information. Fortunately this book did offer a few accounts that were new to me.
It highlights some interesting stories with a good bit of information, enough to keep the listener’s interested without seeming to ramble on.

Not for the faint of heart but oh so good
If you are into unsolved mysteries and crime this book is for you! The stories in here were mostly unfamiliar to me. There was a lot of mystery surrounding so many of these cases and it allows your mind to wander trying to figure who or what may of caused these murders. I was impressed with the wide range of stories covered in this book. If she writes another I will definitely pick it up and read it as well.

Concise Summaries Of Some Very Chilling Cases
Most of the cases in this book are very familiar to me as I'm a true-crime fan and regularly listen to true crime podcasts and read a lot of true crime books. I did find a couple of chilling cases that I had no idea about and took it upon myself to research them a bit further online.
As this book is an anthology of sorts, the stories don't delve very deeply into the details but you do get a nice synopsis of the case. If any of them interest you, I recommend seeking out books or even podcasts that focus on just that one case to get a deeper understanding of the details.
The only complaint I have about this book is the narrator; He seems rather cheery in his performance due to the tone of his voice and how he reads. He would make a great children's book narrator or even a lighthearted book for adults but for true crime it wasn't a good fit. To give you an idea, he sounded rather chipper while describing the gruesome and sad rape, mutilation, and murder of a child in Japan. I'm sure he didn't mean to come across that way but it did add an unsettling and uncomfortable feeling hearing the words written by Hannah Tidy in a sing-song/upbeat tone by the narrator.
That being said, I would have probably enjoyed this title much more if I would have read it myself off my Kindle.

Well written book, let down by narration
This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.
The book follows an interesting concept of investigating some pretty high profile murders in the UK and the US. Some of them pretty grotesque and chilling.
The writer is very informative and the stories are compelling, some are sad. Others are shocking.
It is narrated, not like a story, but... Like a narration. It actually works quite well for this book because of the authoritive nature of the dialect.
The book the narrator is reading from is written very well and, conversely, carries the narration rather than the other way round.
The audio production mastering is not the best. It is unfortunately let down by poor cutting, with repeat cuts left in 8:30+ and some sections the cutting is too late, leading to some paragraphs being clipped at the beginning. The narrator at times sounds a bit like a robot, his prosody is poor. with not enough emotion and too much repetitive prosody. Relying on the timbre and register of his voice... His depth and smoothness to carry his narration.
Some of the sentences are read at a disjointed pace causing you to lose your emersiveness with some of the stories. Which is such a shame because the stories really are on the edge of pulling you in.
I actually really enjoyed the content of this book, some of the stories gave me a chill down my spine. it was let down by some questionable narration.
