About this listen
During the Red Scare of the 1950s, many thousands of people lost their jobs because of this national hysteria. This is the story of a sister and a brother who became victims of this hysteria. The sister lost her government job as a secretary at an Air Force base. The brother was fired as a photographer for MGM. Of the many those many thousands fired, the sister was one of just a few hundred who were reinstated with back pay and all benefits. The brother, who was a Communist Party member at one time, went on to sell a secret formula for making film highly light sensitive to the US Army just as Senator Joseph McCarthy was investigating the Army for Communist connections.
