About this listen

Strange things are happening Nevermoor...
Morrigan Crow faces her most dangerous challenge yet in her latest Wundrous adventure. The highly anticipated third book in the award-winning, New York Times bestselling Nevermoor series from one of Australia's bestselling and most loved authors.

Morrigan Crow and her friends have survived their first year as proud scholars of the elite Wundrous Society, helped bring down the nefarious Ghastly Market, and proven themselves loyal to Unit 919. Now Morrigan faces a new, exciting challenge: to master the mysterious Wretched Arts of the Accomplished Wundersmith, and control the power that threatens to consume her.

But a strange illness has taken hold of Nevermoor's magical Wunimals, turning them into mindless, vicious unnimals on the hunt. With the city she loves in a state of fear, Morrigan quickly realises it's up to her to find a cure.

Critic Reviews

the joy in Hollowpox springs from the imagination and generosity of the author's detailed fabrications . . . Twisting, ingenious strands and subplots form narrative arcs that sustain interest and build to a thrilling climax.
Townsend's world is both whimsical and familiar, her characters magical but relatable, and it's all cut through with a wickedly infectious sense of humour. Inventive, thoughtful, and an outrageous amount of fun
There is more extraordinary world-building, as well as tough ethical decisions, in Wundersmith, Jessica Townsend's superlative follow-up to the unmissable Nevermoor.
Big on imagination
An amazingly detailed and fascinating fantasy world . . . Wundersmith will keep 8+ readers on the edge of their seat
An exciting and charming middle-grade read that will hook readers aged 10 and up with intricate imaginative detail and its sheer energy ... a compulsively readable romp that fans of ... Terry Pratchett or Studio Ghibli will gobble up.
Enter the world of Nevermoor and its fantastical inhabitants, and be utterly enchanted.
A powerful storyline full of plots, and twists and turns where nothing is predictable . . . There's no way readers will put this down before it is finished.
The Trials of Morrigan Crow throws the reader headfirst into the quirky, "like-nowhere-you've-ever-been-before" world of Nevermoor.
A cracking fantasy about a girl who escapes death, only to find herself in a strange land, competing for a chance to join the mysterious Wunderous Society. Polished and inventive, this debut author has created a rich and peculiar world that will appear to readers across ages.
Fearsome, funny and original, it's requisite reading for fantasy lovers of all ages.

Ok. There is no possible way Townsend could have predicted 2020 so closely!
a weird new illness, lockdowns, quarantines, protests, curfews. I am shook.

I love this series and the whole world of Nevermoor and all the colorful characters!! this time round we got introduced to the basement needs who I want to join.

Previously we have had an indication that the hotel Deucalion is somewhat concious but now we know it is entirely sentient and I want more of that please.

nervous about the ending and what it will mean moving forward but excited none the less!!

terrific!!

Jessica is a brilliant writer and Gemma a brilliant performer. Fully entranced both my daughter and myself.

The world, the characters and the story - this series - is a wonderful display of imagination and creativity.

Lived experience is required to understand the full literary beauty of this story - of some of the micro concepts and meanings - so perhaps somewhat too “big” for my 8 year old (with hyperlexia but little life experience). However, we paused and chatted at spots that required some background - and she was as involved in the story as I was (almost haha).

This story, I believe, could be enjoyed by adults as much as children.
Even if my daughter were not interested in reading the next book - I would most certainly grab a copy for myself. I’m awaiting October for the next one, with perhaps a little more anticipation/ suspense/ excitement than my daughter.

Thanks Jessica for sharing your story with us - and thanks Gemma for your skilfully crafted performance.

Brilliantly written and brilliantly performed.

Very well read. The narrator is consistent with voicing different characters and captures the author's story and humour well. the incidental music between chapters is sometimes a little jaring but overall an enjoyable listen.
