THE STORY

Amazing plot, some of Abnett's best surprises to date. Even though it has a 24 hour or so run time, I wish it went for longer! Toby Longworth does an incredible job voicing many characters.

im only 7hrs in. i have re-read, and re-listened(when audio stuff came out;) to gaunts ghosts over a dozen times each. if u know u know. this is a lovely surprise so far. always good, sometimes great. this one is great so far:)

Look, we can sit here and talk about Abnett’s style, his backlog, and all of that. This though, this… was his best so far. I hope that it’s as enjoyable for someone who hasn’t been terrified of living in a hive world for the last 30+ years as it was for me.

Excellent narration and production quality. Unfortunately, the story quickly felt more concerned with modern ideological messaging than with telling a compelling WH40K story.

Warhammer has always explored political and social themes, but this lacked subtlety. Characters often felt like vehicles for contemporary viewpoints rather than believable inhabitants of the setting. Combined with similar trends across recent releases, it's becoming difficult to ignore.

I came for grimdark science fiction, not a lecture. A shame, because the talent behind this audiobook deserved better material.
