Publisher's Summary

Winston Churchill's superlative account of the prelude to and events of the First World War is a defining work of 20th-century history. With dramatic narrative power, Churchill reconstructs the action on the Western and Eastern Fronts, the wars at sea and in the air, and the advent of tanks and U-boats.

Rich with personal insights, this second part of Churchill's magisterial book covers the year 1915 and includes the chapters 'The Deadlock in the West', 'The First Defeat of the U-boats', 'The Battle of Suvla Bay [in Gallipoli', and 'The Abandonment of the Dardanelles'.

The Dardanelles Explained

As an Australian soldier, I had been long exposed to the Gallipoli story. After reading Churchill’s very detailed analysis- it should have worked. Ideal in strategic concept, bungled in execution by those who could not see past putting strength against strength in France.

Again, loved reading this.

It was interesting to hear Churchills version of the Dardanelles saga. It all turned into a perfect storm which was full of missed opportunities and near run things. A fantastic continuation from volume 1, and brilliantly read by Christian Rodska.
