Publisher's Summary

George Friedman, founder of Stratfor, has become a leading expert in geopolitical forecasting, sought after for his thoughtful assessments of current trends and near-future events.

In The Next 100 Years, Friedman turns his eye on the future. Drawing on a profound understanding of history and geopolitical patterns dating back to the Roman Empire, he shows that we are now, for the first time in half a millennium, experiencing the dawn of a new historical cycle.

Critic Reviews

"A unique combination of cold-eyed realism and boldly confident fortune-telling....Whether all of the visions in Friedman's crystal ball actually materialize, they certainly make for engrossing entertainment." ( Publishers Weekly)

Thought provoking

An interesting geopolitical forecast. Rises of Poland and Mexico are well discussed. Likely rise of Indonesia and India didn’t really get a mention. The author notes however that it’s analysis is centred on the US and the only, major and continuing economic and military power.

Starts well but ends like a cheap war novel!

Really interesting start, but the sending part goes on and on about a possible future war and how it will play out, just really boring part of the book! I gave up

Interesting predictions

Summarised the geopolitical context of America over the next 100 years. Military and technological developments, along with international tension points go along way to visualising vividly the possibilities in our near future. Fun and easy to follow.

A difficult topic done pretty well

Now 15 years old I find the author has done pretty well with the exception of China. The bias toward USA is more than evidence based I feel but probably right in the end. Worth a read for the other technology thoughts and historical connections

Mind Blowing

This author gets it right... I mean really gets it right. I have never been so impressed with insight. There are three books I've read and one covers the past... and he seriously gets it right. I like his interaction of three strains, history, social science and politics, and he looks back 10 years, and forward 100 years. Every time I use his description of the US as a teenager (cause it is young and powerful) people understand...
An amazing read for those wanting an overview

Yep political chess for the next 100 years

A very interesting listen with many plausible and intriguing predictions.

Inexplicably the author does not even mention global warming until the last minute - I suspect that reviewers of the manuscript forced him to reluctantly mention it. He says something along the lines of “the scientists say it is a man made problem so I guess I need to accept that but it won’t impact geo politics as demographics and technology will resolve the problem”. Staggering, ostrich head in the sand approach to possibly the defining issue of this century.

The book is also absolutely American centric. The author believes that America is just getting started and will dominate world affairs.

Well I guess we shall see in 100 years!

The cautious predictions in this well presented book are very original and food for thought

The reader is pleasant to listen to and never boring.

No structured assessment - cognitive bias and blind to Asia

A disappointingly weak argument for US dominance ignoring economic or demographic realities. Waste of time.
