In the wake of its 30th birthday celebrations in 2006, BBC Radio Ulster marked the beginning of a new broadcasting era by embarking on the station's most ambitious project to date: a recounting of the history of Ireland.

Awesome book read by many narrators

I always wondered about the Irish "Troubles" so thought this book might explain it to me. I got so much more than I bargained for. A truly informative book. As trump would say.

Very easy to understand

This text is a basic order of history.

It is excellent for those trying to gauge timelines. All the primary (highlights or main) information is given in a clear-voiced performance. Chapters are short and concise making it easy to pick up and put down without loss of meaning.

Great for teachers or those beginning to study.

Disjointed mess

Great to have listened but I did find bits repetitive, word for word and it jumped back and forward in the very long and complex timeline.

Interesting but distracting

I'm sure this was a very interesting and thorough insight into the history of Ireland and I was really looking forward to it, however I found I was constantly distracted (maybe this says more about me than the story). But I think what didn't help was the constant use of random sound effects/vocalisation. I know the use of these is to enhance the story and immersion for the reader/listener but honestly I found most of them annoying. And the Kolimba (I think?) sound effect at the start/end of most episodes got so irritating!! Who chose that?! What in the world does it have to do with Ireland??
Not sure if this is available in print, but if so, I'd recommend it over the audio.
