Publisher's Summary

One hundred years ago, the mightiest "unsinkable" ship began her maiden voyage to cross the Atlantic. An engineering feat 11 stories high, the Titanic contained a list of passengers collectively worth $250 million when she left port on April 10, 1912, but she would never reach her destination. The Titanic collided with an iceberg on the night of April 14, and 1,500 people died in the freezing waters as the ship met her watery grave. Spectacular in many ways, it's a story that has spurred legends and still sends shivers down the spine a century later. This minute-by-minute account of the sinking is based on over 20 years of research and offers amazing detail of that fateful night.

Read by Martin Jarvis, it's a riveting account of one of the world's biggest maritime disasters and the behavior of the passengers and crew. Some sacrificed their lives, while others fought like animals for their own survival. Wives beseeched husbands to join them in lifeboats; gentlemen went taut-lipped to their deaths in full evening dress; and hundreds of steerage passengers, trapped below decks, sought help in vain. From the initial distress flares to the struggles of those left adrift for hours in freezing waters, this audiobook brings that moonlit night in 1912 to life for a new generation of listeners.

Brilliant

A fantastic look back at far more than a sinking ship, but even more a snaphot of a different time, where class, race, cowardice and bravery are all brought into focus. Martin Jarvis narrated this so well.

GREAT!

I absolutely loved the book, I highly recommend it. I've been a Titanic fan since I was 6, now I'm 10. Walter Lord really studied the Titanic. He goes right into the centre of everything!
BTW, survivers wrote some of the book!

History brought to life.

I enjoyed the narration of the story. The tragedy was brought to life by the human history being portrayed close to the historical facts. It was a great book.

Absolutely Fantastic

An incredible book that still holds up in bringing that spooky night to life. Narrator’s performance is also very good.

Engaging acount of the Titanic tragedy.

I enjoyed learming many interesting details about this tragedy. Its a reminder of how disasters are usually because of multiple mistakes that conspire toward an otherwise rare outcome. Its also a classic example of man's folly as we aim for larger, better, more expensive, more luxurious often to the detriment of safety. Fascinating listen. Thank you Audible.

A truely splendid piece of research that managed to recreate one of the worst disasters at sea

5 stars
A truely splendid piece of research that managed to recreate one of the worst disasters at sea.

This is the second book that I have read on the Titanic disaster, and I wish I had have picked this one up first. It goes into so much detail of what happened before, during and after the sinking. It successfully told the facts while humanising the victims and survivors and showing the tremendous bravery showcased by those onboard.

This book was first published back in 1955, and you honestly cannot tell. It is easy to read, gripping and engaging.

I loved reading the different stories about each of the different crew and passengers that Lord touched on.

This is 100% worth your time and I cannot wait to read more on the topic.

A classic, ably read

A Night To Remember is a classic book and for good reason. Meticulously well researched and fair-handed in it’s retelling, the book gives a minute by minute account of the Titanic’s last hours. An excellent performance makes this a thoroughly enjoyable listen
