Publisher's Summary

Explore the captivating history of the vikings

Men like Ragnar Lothbrok, Eric Bloodaxe, Ivar the Boneless, and Bjorn Ironside are portrayed as preying on unsuspecting communities and spreading fear across Europe as they laid waste to all that lay before them, taking what they wanted at the point of a sword.

It is true that the Vikings were, without a doubt, brutal men living in a brutal age. They did use their skills as warriors to relentlessly attack Europe and the British Isles to increase their wealth and territory, but that is not all the Vikings were, and their contribution to world history is far more than warmongering.

In this captivating history audiobook, you'll not only learn about heroic warriors in battle but you'll also discover the remarkable achievements made by the Vikings.

I recommend it

A very easy book to read about the Viking story. Although very brief it manages to get across the main events without too much detail. The sort of resource useful as a starting point for further more intense search.

in-depth

Much better depth of understanding of the origins of the age of vikings and the impact of vikings on northern Europe is presented. Well organized text with well explained scientific and genetic support for the arguments made. One of the longer Captivating History books--its about time.

Very interesting

The last chapter of the book is basically a conclusion, which I appreciated because of the tone, demystifying any kind of prejudice or pre-thought about this beautiful and passionate Scandinavian culture. “Vikings are much more than mere barbarous thugs and pillagers that modern stereotypes might make them out to be.”

A Captivating Guide to the Viking Age

The author is giving historically accurate information, although in a pretty brief and congested form, keeping the crucial facts in-line which keeps the whole account more dynamic and equally captivating.

well researched

I learned from it, for example, was that the Vikings didn't start trouble with the more southerly Europeans. It was the other way around. Charlemagne committed atrocities in Scandinavia, which prompted the Viking reaction. All in all, a good introduction to these people.

I absolutely loved it!

Seems we still have this pattern in our daily life. We just don't see it that way in everyday life. Now I want to research these facts. Great short read. If you love history this is the way to go.

My husband and I Both LOVE this book

WOW !!! There is information in it like NONE of my other books on the subject have touched. Mostly in the form of 'voices-from-history' throughout it,... i.e. direct quotes (hundreds ?) my husband just finished it last night,.. reluctantly, and has asked me to search for more books by this author...

It was definitely a great book

Viking history is always interesting and fun to learn about to me. I thought the details about the Vikings landing in America were interesting.
