About this listen
NFL football player Isaiah Blackwell lost his husband three years ago and is raising their teen son alone. He lives his life as quietly as his job allows, playing ball to support his family but trying not to draw unwanted attention. His quiet life is shaken up when a mutual friend introduces him to Victor, a visiting principal ballet dancer who is everything Isaiah is not.
Brash and loud, Victor Aleksandrov has applied for political asylum to avoid returning to Russia, where gay men are targeted and persecuted. He's been outspoken about gay rights in his home country, and if he doesn't get asylum, going back to Russia is a death sentence.
Their one-night stand turns into a tentative friendship, a relationship they both agree is temporary . . . until Victor's denied asylum. Isaiah can't offer Victor a happily ever after, but he can propose something that'll keep Victor in the US and safe . . . marriage. He just doesn't expect his new husband to dance away with his heart.
Contains mature themes.

I liked the chemistry between Isaiah and Victor but the way Isaiah continually broke Victor’s heart was hard to bear. This was all about Isaiah’s journey of understanding and letting go of his dead husband and while it was frustrating at times, it was an important journey—I could really appreciate the sentiments, especially Evan’s speech to Isaiah near the end of the book which was a brilliant piece of writing. 🎧 African-American actor Mirron Willis did a great job narrating the audio!
Sweet and spicy fake-marriage romance!

The end was cringe.
The guy that lost his husband was pissing me off with all his talk of I’m not one of THOSE gays even tho at the end he changes his mind bc of his son and all that it still pissed me off bc he kept saying shit like I’m not the kind of gay to be at the front of a pride parade again I know he changed at the end but yeah pissed me off.
I wouldn’t pay money for this book but if it’s free it’s worth a read I think idk depends on what kind of books you like this is definitely not my cup of tea
