A change of scene or a change of heart?

When your boyfriend calls you impulsive, what do you do?

If you’re Jenny Porter, you dash off to Scotland determined to save a failing textile mill, of course.

That’s how Jenny finds herself having awkward encounters with the abrasive but disconcertingly attractive Ross Grant.

And then, just as things between Jenny and Ross develop into something more interesting, her boyfriend, Henry, arrives in Scotland. Should she do the sensible thing and follow Henry back to London?

Or might her Highland adventure be more than just a fling?

Great story.

Great complex story, as Katie Fforde does so well. I really liked the narrator, love Katie’s books on audible but just can’t listen to Jilly Bond who narrates most of Katie afforded great books. Please could audible provide alternative narrators. I would but all of Katie afforded books on audible but cannot by any with Jilly Bond Narrating

Terrible Narration

I didn't think it was one of Katie's best. The relationship between heroine and hero was very unbelievable. And I'm sorry to say that I felt that the narration was dreadful. Stilted and hesitant and her accents were appalling.

narrator turned me off but the story is nice

Thiw was a nice story but the narrator read way too slowly for my taste so I ended up listening at 1,25x speed. It's the best I've read by Fforde so far. She does a great job giving you a sense of the cold weather in Scotland, nice description of scenery and nice portrayal of snobs. I got to learn about felt and alpacas. The romance was ok. It was a bit annoying that the main character kept thinking about what her boyfriend would think of her in every situation she found herself in.

Terrible narration

I have never yet been disappointed by a Katie Fforde, but I'm not sure I'll be able to finish listening to this. Could it have been recorded at the wrong narration speed? It's so painfully slow and stilted as to be unlistenable, I'm actually listening at a speeded up narration rate. The Scottish accents are particularly poor. There's Irish and West Country in there but very little Scottish. It would have been better not to attempt then at all. I have given an overall rating of 2, as the story seems ok so far .....

great storyline, bit unrealistic

I love a good romance so this did make me smile however I wasnt naive to the fact that the storyline is quite unrealistic. the narration doesn't fit the characters in my opinion. nevertheless I enjoyed the book

Poor poor accents ruined a great story.

Loved this story but it’s ruined by the terrible accents the narrator uses for the other characters. The Scottish accent sounds more Irish with a mix of West Country thrown in. Dreadful but It did make me laugh at times. I wish audible checked on their narrators ability to do accents & if they can’t then don’t.

Great story shame about the narration

This is one of my favourite Katie Fforde books and was so happy to see it was being released on Audible. What a shame that the narrators Scottish accent is poor and off putting, she sounded more Irish than Scottish to me. I will be requesting a refund on this occasion unfortunately.

Dodgy accents

This is a lovely story which I read many years ago and was looking forward to it being released as an audiobook. As the title suggests most of the book takes place in the Scottish Highlands. Unfortunately the narrator wasn’t able to produce a Scottish accent and they all ended up sounding vaguely Irish. The ‘posh’ English boyfriend sounded like a dodgy Southern wheeler dealer which was not how I imagined him when I read the book. Overall I found the accents very distracting and they spoiled my enjoyment of the audiobook. It is better to read this book than listen to this version.

Narration 😬

Lovely to throw in a bit of KF now and again, as sorbet between heavy meals. Content nicely obvious, narration appalling. Surprised a well acknowledged writer didn't demand stronger accent attributes for her audiobook reader. I experienced a rich mix of Irish cockney aussie scouse, which may possibly have worked if most characters were not based in the Highlands of Scotland. Expression of filler noise (ummmm/ohhh/ahh) was so confused it became shudderingly hilarious. When the narration is this weak, it's so very difficult to enjoy the content.
