A change of scene or a change of heart?

When your boyfriend calls you impulsive, what do you do?

If you’re Jenny Porter, you dash off to Scotland determined to save a failing textile mill, of course.

That’s how Jenny finds herself having awkward encounters with the abrasive but disconcertingly attractive Ross Grant.

And then, just as things between Jenny and Ross develop into something more interesting, her boyfriend, Henry, arrives in Scotland. Should she do the sensible thing and follow Henry back to London?

Or might her Highland adventure be more than just a fling?

Not a favourite.

I found the slow voices quite annoying. Didn't really enjoy the story or the Characters.

Not your typical working holiday romance

I enjoy the friendships and real life situations that make up the backdrop of Katie Fforde's romances. On the upside I liked how the main character worked hard to help others... On the downside I wondered why a guest in a house had to do the cooking. I enjoyed the reader's seamless switches from character to character but found some voices a bit slow so played them at 1.25 speed.

narrator turned me off but the story is nice

Thiw was a nice story but the narrator read way too slowly for my taste so I ended up listening at 1,25x speed. It's the best I've read by Fforde so far. She does a great job giving you a sense of the cold weather in Scotland, nice description of scenery and nice portrayal of snobs. I got to learn about felt and alpacas. The romance was ok. It was a bit annoying that the main character kept thinking about what her boyfriend would think of her in every situation she found herself in.

Terrible narration

I have never yet been disappointed by a Katie Fforde, but I'm not sure I'll be able to finish listening to this. Could it have been recorded at the wrong narration speed? It's so painfully slow and stilted as to be unlistenable, I'm actually listening at a speeded up narration rate.
The Scottish accents are particularly poor. There's Irish and West Country in there but very little Scottish. It would have been better not to attempt then at all.
I have given an overall rating of 2, as the story seems ok so far .....

Great story shame about the narration

This is one of my favourite Katie Fforde books and was so happy to see it was being released on Audible. What a shame that the narrators Scottish accent is poor and off putting, she sounded more Irish than Scottish to me. I will be requesting a refund on this occasion unfortunately.

Dodgy accents

This is a lovely story which I read many years ago and was looking forward to it being released as an audiobook. As the title suggests most of the book takes place in the Scottish Highlands. Unfortunately the narrator wasn’t able to produce a Scottish accent and they all ended up sounding vaguely Irish. The ‘posh’ English boyfriend sounded like a dodgy Southern wheeler dealer which was not how I imagined him when I read the book. Overall I found the accents very distracting and they spoiled my enjoyment of the audiobook. It is better to read this book than listen to this version.

A treat and my 'go to' story

This is my all time favourite Katie Fforde! Loving this new version, although from the narration the Scots people sound like they come from some indistinguishable place and are a bit out of place in the rest of the story, fortunately the other people's voices are spot on, so only a small niggle in an otherwise outstanding production of my favourite story. I always wonder what happened to Jenny and Ross when the story ends, the friction between these two characters always makes me giggle. Saving the mill and the eccentric family behind it is at the heart of the story and the details about Alpacas and Llamas and their special fibres, plus the crafty details make this a rich tapestry of colourful characters and interest. if you haven't read this story before, you're in for a treat.

Worst Katie Fforde book to date

I like Katie Fforde and her books. They are easy to read or listen to and are lighthearted. But this book is terrible. The narrator is not very good. She speaks incredibly slowly and her Scottish scent needs a lot of work.
But mainly the storyline is just rubbish. I don’t mean to be harsh but it truly is bad. There’s not one character that you like in this book. Even the main character isn’t that good. I like characters with flaws, makes them more real and human but every character has so many flaws, including the main character that you don’t like any of them and don’t warm to a single one.

Bad accents by narrator

The Scottish accents in this were horrendous! I'm sure the narrator has many other strengths. The storyline is good for escapism.

Scottish accent awful.!!

One of my favourite Katie afforded books, however the Scottish accent in this is actually offensive, sounded more like bad Irish . Being Scottish myself it was painful to listen to. Apart from that was very good.

Great story.

Great complex story, as Katie Fforde does so well. I really liked the narrator, love Katie’s books on audible but just can’t listen to Jilly Bond who narrates most of Katie afforded great books. Please could audible provide alternative narrators. I would but all of Katie afforded books on audible but cannot by any with Jilly Bond Narrating
