Publisher's Summary
The Bride by Julie Garwood meets To Tame a Highland Warrior by Karen Marie Moning in this new Highlander series from award-winning author Heather McCollum.
Clever and bold, Ella Sutherland has won the right to call herself chief of her clan and struggles to hold onto the chiefdom against those who doubt a woman’s rule. When she’s captured by the darkly handsome Sinclair chief, she chooses death over wedding him and giving up her clan to their long-time enemy. For she has a secret, an oath she took years ago to protect and keep the clan seat for a great ruler to come.
Cain refuses to let his brother, Death, honor Ella’s choice with an execution. He’s never before met a woman so brave and passionate. Everything about her, from the scars she hides on her face to the way she can ride a horse while standing on the saddle, intrigues him. Despite their growing attraction, she continues to resist his plans to unite and conquer. When enemies within the Sutherland clan threaten the oath Ella made, she escapes the Sinclairs and Cain to defend it.
Hurt by her desertion, Cain rallies his armies to take revenge, defeating the Sutherlands once and for all. But the wise words of his grandmother and the pressure growing in his heart make him question everything he’s been raised to believe. Can victory possibly come from surrender?

wow what a surprise
I I have read a lot of historical romances in my time then took a break for a number of years. I am so glad that I did try this authors book as did it not only have romance and a wedding in it there was also a pleasant mixture of light political strategy some angst as well as the usual romance and steam.
both the heroine and the hero were really likeable. the heroine of course possessing some spunk and the hero playing his usual strong alpha Kickass personality. the two obviously Belong Together after all what strong Alpha would not take a woman with spunk.
there were some nice little side stories that put up a bit of angst and surprise and I loved the interaction between the four brothers especially because of what they are supposed to represent in this book
definitely looking forward to book 2.
so if you like a little bit of historical romance and steam some light political strategy and some historical thinking around the 1500s then I'd say go for it.
as for the narrator, Tim Campbell is awesome he speaks in the Queen's English in third person but then switches to Scottish brogue whenever he takes the place of the characters. I enjoyed his male and female character and would listen to him again

A WONDERFUL BEGINNING TO A SERIES SO FAR
I enjoyed this book. Strong female lead and strong male lead always makes for interesting results. Tim Campbell can narrate a cookbook and make it sound sexy! If he's in, I'm in!! There are not enough Historical Scottish Romance books being put on audio with good narrators, so any time I find one...I gobble it up!! lol

Might be my New Favorite
This book is easily Heather McCollum's best. So far the series is amazing. The sons of Sinclair are easily the coolest heroes of all the highland romances I've listened to or read.
As usual Tim Campbell was wonderful. He is my favorite narrator for highland romance - well it's a tie between him and Phil Gigante.

A lovely read.
Awesome read. It bought joy and laughter and sadness with a great ending. There was a moral to the story. There was growth in the characters this book offered everything I look for in a romance novel.I did not think I would enjoy this book because it was free But I was hugely mistaken. The book was a sweet romance with just the amount of sex and love. The sex was not vulgar or profane and it didn’t go into great detail which I like. I saw the male lead grow and learn the difference between domination and love. This book would have been worth a credit.

Comfort read! Full of elements that make a good read for adults
This is typical of the series, it has a touching plot and considerable amount of touchy-feely stuff going on in it. What made it attractive to me was the way the audible rendition brought the characters to a reality. Fabulous accents and an amazing deeply appealing voices especially the Laird.
