About this listen

In celebration of it's 20th anniversary, Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable, audiobook edition of High Fidelity, by Nick Hornby, read by Russell Tovey.

Nick Hornby's first novel, an international bestseller and instantly recognized by critics and readers alike as a classic, helps to explain men to women, and men to men. Rob is good on music: he owns a small record shop and has strong views on what's decent and what isn't. But he's much less good on relationships. In fact, he's not at all sure that he wants to commit himself to anyone. So it's hardly surprising that his girlfriend decides that enough is enough.

Critic Reviews

Leaves you believing not only in the redemptive power of music but above all the redemptive power of love
A triumphant first novel. True to life and moving
Extremely cleverly observed
An instant classic
Fast, fun, and remarkably deft: a sharp-edged portrait that manages at once to be vicious, generous, and utterly good-natured

Seriously find someone that can read fluently. Reminded me of listening to the kind of stupid kids read out loud in Year 9

Nick Hornby's High Fidelity is a brilliant exploration of love, music, and self-reflection, brought to life in an even more captivating way through the audiobook. The narration by Russell Tovey is particularly outstanding—his delivery perfectly captures the witty, relatable, and often introspective tone of the protagonist, Rob. Tovey’s engaging voice makes the emotional highs and lows resonate deeply, enhancing the humor and vulnerability in the story. For fans of sharp, character-driven narratives, this audiobook version is a must-listen!

A coming of age story about being mid thirties and getting your shit together. I rate it.

Good book, for the main character the narrator is fine but when he does Dick and Barry it's embarrassing for him, but when he does the American Female Recording artist it's TERRIBLE, really really bad, he just can't do a female voice and he really can't do an American female voice, sorry. Otherwise it's a winner. I'd still recommend it though, you just need to put on your cringe coat for those parts

GREAT BOOK BUT THE NARRATOR FAILS IN HIS ACCENTS
