Publisher's Summary

Charles Preston Carmichael is the most infuriating man I've ever met.

I want to sock the golden boy of college hockey right in the mouth. He enjoys telling me everything I'm messing up—publicly. And since he's my roommate for the next year, I can't avoid him.

Yet there's something about him that makes me watch him. Something dark. A secret I want to uncover.

When he returns from a weekend away, broken and haunted, I can't keep my distance anymore. He needs someone, and I'll be damned if it's not me.

Soon my life no longer revolves around hockey but the nightmares he's living with. Desperately, I want to save him, but I can't. Only he can save himself.

Can I watch him destroy himself as he tries to hold tight to the things that matter, or will I be the final hit in the destruction of his life?

Hidden Scars is an MM enemies-to-lovers hockey romance with a jealous f*ck buddy and plenty of heat.

Trigger warning required

Wow! what a story. As someone who has experienced DV I really struggled with parts of there journey to love, however, did not take away from how much I loved this book, only added to it.

Teddy Hamilton does emotions so well.

These was a beautiful story that pulled on all the heart strings. It does come with a trigger warning of abuse from a trusted family member, who is a medical professional. In saying that, if you can handle listening to trauma scenes there is one scene that skims over it, and one scene that we hear what actually happens, throughout we also see mental manipulation. Largely the book deals with the emotional implications of dealing with trauma, and how always being put down effects your self esteem and causes constant doubt and acceptance of anything positive. There is a beautiful love story between Jeremy and Preston - (both pro ice hockey players), which helps pull him through the dark times and out the other side with a HEA.
100% acknowledgment to Teddy Hamilton who does the narrating so well, that you feel all the emotions and the mental struggles going on in Preston’s head as he battles through.
A powerful story, but also coupled with some smiling moments and spicy bedroom scenes.

TRIGGER WARNINGS!

This story needed trigger warnings before the first chapter. Abuse, torture, manipulation, suicide just to name a few. Very heavy content.
The romance side of the book was awesome. Their enemies to lovers' storyline was hot. Spicy and kinky, I loved Jeremy and Preston getting together.
Preston's family storyline was full on and felt out of place in a sports romance. It was so heavy, horrible and sad that it didn't feel like a romance book at all anymore, more a horror or dark romance.
Performance was incredible as it always is from Teddy Hamilton and Iggy Toma.

Intense, trigger warnings

There are some pretty intense themes of abuse and cutting.

this is still a good book overall but not just a fluffy romance.

Love this story

I fell in love with this story not even half way through the read, so with both Teddy Hamilton and Iggy Toma’s narration I knew the audio was going to be perfect, and it is.

I anxiously awaited the audio for this book

Hidden Scars was my top read of 2022. I was desperate for the audio to come out, because I knew the emotion of this story would come through even stronger being able to listen to it.

Teddy Hamilton and Iggy Toma did a wonderful job of bringing Preston and Jeremy to life. This story is so heavy with external turmoil and they really did it justice. It was well worth the wait and I am looking forward to relistening already.

Such an great hurt/comfort story with great narration

The audiobook was well worth the wait. Teddy Hamilton made you feel everything Preston was and I don’t think it could have been cast better. Iggy Toma was such a great Jeremy. I don’t always enjoy his narration but this one I thought he fit the role so well. I absolutely love the book and the narration enough I have already started it again. I don’t think I’ll ever have enough of Preston and Jeremy🩵

Andi Jaxon weaves together an emotional roller coaster I couldn’t get couldn’t get enough of. Preston and Jeremy are complete opposites from their personalities, routines, upbringings and so on. With them being so different they fit together perfectly. They each brought something into the relationship they the other needed but wouldn’t ask for. The more I learned about Preston the more my heart broke for what he had to endure in life. And every time Jeremy was exactly what Preston needed whether he knew it or not.

The book was full of unpredictable situations that a few times had me walking away from the book because I couldn’t predict which way a situation would go but it always turned out okay. One thing that did make this book easier to read than I thought it would was the abuse Preston endured was there but not in excessive detail throughout the book which made it easier to endure.

Ouch but so good

The voice actors did a great job.

I absolutely adored this book. But as a warning you are probably going to hate Preston… for a while. Preston is a complete jerk at the start of the book. You find out at the start of the book that he had significant trauma. He is experiencing significant abuse. He ends up taking that trauma out on others particularly Jeremy. But as the book progresses despite the seemingly terrible personality, you start to become invested in his story. Largely due to Jeremy.
Jeremy is amazing. He definitely has poor boundaries and should have not allowed the awful behavior towards him. But he is written in such a way that you love him early on.

So much heart

I absolutely love this book. devoured it on kindle and then waited and waited for it to be out on audio. and it's even better.
their relationship starts off strange and seemingly one sided in ways, but they also depend on one another. I think one tiny point closer to the end this book gets a tiny bit cheesy and rushed, but that's just my opinion. overall everything is dealt with so well and I thoroughly enjoyed feeling these characters emotions and growth. Especially loved how much support the friends gave them once they realized it was serious between them, and that Preston was struggling with something they were unaware of.
can't wait for the next book!

This one’s a goodie

Gosh, complex, heartbreaking, heartwarming. All the things! Excellent narration. Had me from the first line of the story. Consumed my time I could not stop listening.

Obviously the brilliant narration duo made it a pleasure to listen to.

Highly recommend.

All the emotions

Wow! Absolutely amazing listen Jeremy and Preston were perfect even when Preston was being an ahole with Jeremy . What Preston went through was heartbreaking what parents can do that to their child then carry on as if life is normal , I’m so glad Jeremy and Preston get their HEA .

what a story

This book was amazing. It was so heartbreaking at times. Preston and Jeremy were made for each other 🥰. They are the total opposite but they definitely work! The tension between them at the beginning was perfect! and when they came together it was HOT.

The narrators brought the story to life amazingly and made me enjoy the book even more. I cant wait to read Brendan and Pauls story next.

Fab Listen!

I read this book at the start of the year and loved it, so when the audiobook was announced, I knew it would be an immediate purchase, and I'm so glad it was. The narrators do such a fantastic job portraying these characters and bringing the story to life.
Preston broke my heart but in the best kind of way. The way Jeremy broke through his walls and was there for him and helped him learn to love himself was just everything!
The reason this doesn't get a full 5 stars for me is I felt that the resolution of the situation with Prestons dad was lacklustre. It just wasn't satisfactory to me as I wanted that man to SUFFER, and because of what he did, he got off too easily, in my opinion.
