Als Kaiser Karl V. im Jahr 1547 nach der Schlacht bei Mühlberg auf seinem Zuge nach Franken und Schwaben auch durch Thüringen kam, wirkte die verwitwete Gräfin Katharina von Schwarzburg, eine geborene Fürstin von Henneberg, einen Sauve-Garde-Brief bei ihm aus, dass ihre Untertanen von der durchziehenden spanischen Armee nichts zu leiden haben sollten.
