Publisher's Summary

Ven, Roz, Olive and Frankie have been friends since school. They day-dreamed of glorious futures, full of riches, romance and fabulous jobs. Twenty-five years later, Olive cleans other people's houses to support her lazy, out-of-work husband and his ailing mother. Roz cannot show her caring husband Manus any love because her philandering ex has left her trust in shreds. And she and Frankie have fallen out big time. But Ven is determined to reunite her friends and realise the dream they had of taking a cruise before they hit 40. Before they know it, the four of them are on the high seas. But can 16 days of luxury and indulgence distract from the tension and loneliness that await their return?

Great Holiday Read

Would you listen to Here Come the Girls again? Why?

I have listened to it more than once already.

What other book might you compare Here Come the Girls to and why?

Any of Milly Johnson books all are great.

What about Colleen Prendergast’s performance did you like?

She was excellent.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Without going into details about the story. It was when Venice explained everything to the girls and why she did what she did.

Any additional comments?

Just a great light happy holiday read. I read it on the Greek Islands which is why I particularly liked the setting.

Great story with strong characters

This story made you feel that you knew each of the women personally. The twists and turns their lives went though made the story interesting. My only complaint was that the ending was wrapped up in just a few minutes when it could have provided the reader with a much more developed ending. A true chapter apiece might have been great finish. I would love to know how each of them got to the places they were in the last scene.

Love these books and narrator. Real-ish women characters, real problems, good coverage of this age group. Fun cruise setting.

Brilliant

I loved this book. It had a bit of everything, real life characters, moving bits, sad bits, love, laughter, romance. I really laughted an awful lot. I cried too. I couldn't put it down. I was rooting for all the characters. I felt like I was on a journey with these ladies. I was sad when the book came to an end. Definitely read/listen to this book. The narrater was a great fit for the style of the story and characters. Its a great easy going book to get lost in. Enjoy!

Cruising fever

What made the experience of listening to Here Come the Girls the most enjoyable?

I think the narrator was very good and she made a good story even better.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I liked all the women, but Olive was my favourite character, she had such a long way to go.

What does Colleen Prendergast bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

The author has captured so many different qualities of human nature and the nastiness of some people who do not care how they treat other people and how one little episode in life can change the whole course of your life.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I couldn't stop listening to this story and had a compelling need to buy some more of her stories. She never fails to draw her audience in and take them on a roller coaster ride.

Any additional comments?

It made me want to go on a cruise!!

Would you listen to Here Come the Girls again? Why?

like the style of writing and subject matters.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Frankie, honest and true a born survivor.

Which character – as performed by Colleen Prendergast – was your favourite?

Olive could get a clear picture of her in my mind.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both, could appreciate everything that happened on the cruise.

Any additional comments?

Fabulous book I would recommend it to "all the girls".

A feel good book with fun from start to finish.

Any additional comments?

I have never read anything by Milly Johnson, to be honest I hadn’t even heard of her. What a feel good book, with sheer fun from start to finish, this most certainly will not be my last. For a change I wanted an easy, fun read and that is exactly what I got. I loved this audiobook from within about ten minutes of the start and was always disappointed when I had to stop listening to do something else. We meet the four best friends when they are still at school and then meet them again later in life when they go on a cruise. Throughout the book it felt like I was the fifth member of the group and going along with them. If only…. I wish! Each of the women has had various life experiences, which as the listener we can easily relate to. The four girls are realistic, down to earth and all from Yorkshire. The narration by Colleen Prendegast couldn’t have been better, she was brilliant, there was never any issues trying to define which character was speaking, credit to her. Of course I would recommend this to everyone, but if you like to analyse the plot, interpret the characters, look for hidden meanings then maybe this is not for you. However, I loved it.
