Publisher's Summary

Regal romance abounds in this flirty, laugh-out-loud companion novel to Prince Charming, by New York Times best-selling author Rachel Hawkins.

Millie Quint is devastated when she discovers that her sort-of-best friend/sort-of-girlfriend has been kissing someone else. Heartbroken and ready for a change of pace, Millie decides to apply for scholarships to boarding schools...the farther from Houston the better.

Soon, Millie is accepted into one of the world's most exclusive schools, located in the rolling highlands of Scotland. Here, the country is dreamy and green; the school is covered in ivy, and the students think her American-ness is adorable.

The only problem: Mille's roommate Flora is a total princess.

She's also an actual princess. Of Scotland.

At first, the girls can't stand each other, but before Millie knows it, she has another sort-of-best-friend/sort-of-girlfriend. Princess Flora could be a new chapter in her love life, but Millie knows the chances of happily ever afters are slim...after all, real life isn't a fairy tale...or is it?

New York Times best-selling author Rachel Hawkins brings the feels and the laughs to her latest romance.

Queer Treasure

In short, Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins, is a queer treasure.

Others have said this, but I want to reiterate; I thought I didn’t care for romance - especially YA romance. I was wrong. The reality is that I’ve seen enough heterosexual couplings and romance tropes that all I can do is roll my eyes. Seeing a common romance trope applied to queer relationships, with bisexual and lesbian representation, is refreshing and enjoyable.

I would especially recommend this for late bloomers, who never had the opportunity to explore their own teen romances and young loves due to the iron padlocks on the closet door.

I would also recommend this for teens who have never had the chance to see a same-sex relationship presented in that same typical and romantic context as the many straight versions of this story. I would also recommend this for those looking for something fun, uplifting and romantic to take your mind off the horrors of day to day life.

The characters feel like real people, not just stereotypical stand-ins. The chemistry between the main characters didn’t feel forced, as I often find it in other similar stories. The narration by Karissa Vacker was engaging and fluid. She seamlessly switched between American and Scottish accents, which brought the book to life.

While this is technically the second book in the 'Royals' series, you do not have to read the first one to read Her Royal Highness. They are two separate novels that stand on their own.

A very cute romance!

Her Royal Highness was a very cute book. I love romances and I love Scotland, so put the two together and that's an amazing book for me. I loved the sapphic romance too: it was hate to love, which is one of my favourite tropes. I highly recommend this book if you're looking for a sweet sapphic YA romance!
