Publisher's Summary
A princess on the run must complete a mystical quest in order to take her rightful place on her country's throne.
Princess Isabella Chastaine holds the fate of her tiny island nation in her hands. Literally. Escaping the men who murdered her parents, she flees to England with a sacred map outlining the location of ancient relic items necessary for a new ruler to ascend the throne, items buried deep within the granite caves of her homeland.
Simon Rothmore, Earl of Merrick, has faithfully served the English crown since his recruitment into an elite secret agency. His newest task, deciphering the puzzling assassinations of the royal family of Leaudor, leads him to the only remaining member, Princess Isabella.
Betrayed by those closest to her and deeply suspicious of possible English involvement, Isabella vows to return to her country and seek justice for her family. She will allow no one, especially not an arrogant English earl, to interfere in her quest. But love has a way of uniting even the most unlikely souls. Together, they travel across two countries, encounter painful betrayals, complete a mystical quest, and forge a new destiny neither had dreamed possible.
Contains mature themes.

Loved it..
Another book from 2007 by Ms. Banks that I really enjoyed. Yeah, there was graphic sex in it, but I skipped over that and got right down to the murder and traitorous parts of the story AND the really good love story; between an English Earl and the princess of a country called Leaudor. She was hiding in the most dangerous parts of London hoping to find someone to help her with her revenge and to take back her country. Oh, and Isabella could sure kick some ass, when you least expected it.
There was explicit sex in this, two or 3 times, but no swearing.
As to the narration: Tim Campbell, Luke Daniels and Napoleon Ryan are the three best male narrators and I’m happy it was one of them that narrated this. I can’t find a thing wrong with Tim Campbell in this book. I can’t stand a book narrated by a female and when the hero talks he sounds just like a girl. UGH!

Good but not great
I liked the story but it's not over the top great. It's about the princess who needs to get back to her home. The story is primarily about the journey home. I like the way their chemistry developed but at times I felt it was rushed. I wished Maya had spent more time describing the intimate scenes as they were great. :P
I love Maya Banks but this is not one of my favs.

An intriguing story
This is another good book from Maya Banks. I purchased the book and the audiobook and I enjoyed both.
The story is good; an epilogue and a few more honest conversations between the hero and the heroine would have made it a great story. Tim Campbell is the narrator... enough said.
The hero, Simon. Earl of Merrick, is a wonderful man, wounded by his past and deserving of love. Isabella, Princess of Leaudor has suffered much pain and loss in a very short period of time and is bound on a quest to right the wrongs done to her family. Together they learn to trust, love and depend on each other. The betrayals in this book are really heart breaking. An astute reader will know who the betrayer is ( at least on the hero side) by the fourth or fifth chapter of the book. It is not so obvious who betrays the heroine if you are not paying attention.
The story has enough action, romance and mystery to hold the reader's/listener's attention. Ii is worth a credit.

Liked it a lot
I skipped book one of the series because of all the reviewers that warned about the domestic violence. This one was great great fun. A fairy tale. A little bit of steam but not much. Really charming. I know some people had complaints about it in the reviews and it wasn’t perfect but it was just the way it was supposed to be for a regency mystery romance. Bad guys were a bit predictable but it was presented as an amazing twist. Mystical stuff was super light touch and charming as well. A very fun listen. Campbell terrific. Couldn’t turn it off. Did it all one Sunday. Worth a credit. Will try the next one too.

Boring
I usually love books by this author. The story was bad, the narration was bad too. The only reason I finished it is because I had invested so much time in it hoping it would improve.

I liked a lot
I enjoyed a lot of this story. However some of it was too *expected*. A good adventure but a bit less of romance. Since this is part of a series but not a continuation of the original story, I an less enthusiastic. Tim Campbell is great as always.
