An alliance between enemies. A weapon of untold power. And a bond that could rewrite fate.

Welcome to the kingdom of secrecy, betrayal and no mercy.

Ivy Pomeroy should be untouchable. Blessed with the power of illusion, she has many tricks up her sleeve, yet none are a match for the enchanted necklace that keeps her bound as an assassin to a ruthless king. Forced to play the role of obedient pet, she plots in secret to destroy him and break free of his hold.

When a mysteriously handsome Reaper from Death's Isle arrives hunting the same weapon Ivy needs, the enemies collide in a reluctant alliance brimming with tension. But as their search uncovers whispers of a dark power that threatens the entire kingdom, it becomes clear that nothing on the Isle of Illusion is what it seems.

Undeniable attraction tangles with deadly secrets, and Ivy's fight for freedom soon becomes a battle of survival. Through it all, she must never forget that though she may wear a collar, she is not the pet they tamed.

She is the beast they let inside.

And she will show no mercy.

I almost gave it a five, but the female lead did the stereotypical thing of having an intimate moment only to go “oh no, this was a mistake” which is becoming so boring. And the male narrator’s voice sounded very middle aged, not the 30 something guy he is. And he also struggled to create different voices, in fact it needed one more male voice so that you don’t have to ask, “which character is that? “ when multiple males in a conversation. The cliffhanger is solid. Do recommend.

An interesting storyline

I found this story really disjointed. I got about 12 chapters in and just didn’t find the story captured me at all. It was almost like they edited a bunch of things out of it and it just didn’t flow well. Also the male narrator’s voice was really poorly cast. It’s almost comical like Tim Curry. Listen to the sample before purchasing because it was so distracting for me I couldn’t continue.
