Story
We are becoming more and more obsessed with being thin...as we get fatter and fatter! The craziest part is that most weight loss 'solutions' are actually part of the problem. Diet and exercise programs fail 97% of people in the long-term, resulting in short term weight loss, medium term regain and long-term gain approximately 10 to 15% above starting weight. Scientists have known this reality for decades - the entire diet industry is based on it - yet we keep on falling for promises of fast, easy, permanent weight loss.

Story
The anti-diet bible that calls time’s up to poisonous beliefs about food, weight and worth. Dieting doesn't work. Not long term. In fact, our bodies are hardwired against it. But each time our diets fail, instead of considering that maybe our ridiculously low-carb diet is the problem, we wonder what’s wrong with us. But it’s time we called a spade a spade: Constantly trying to eat the smallest amount possible is a miserable way to live, and it isn’t even working. So f*ck it.

Publisher's Summary
A no-excuses kick-in-the-ass to wellness, from an award-winning trainer and fitness expert.
Join the movement. Ditch the diet.
Who is ready to stop thinking about weight loss? To free their brain from thoughts about ketones, calories, and fasting? Who wants life to be more effortless, energetic, and empowered?
Welcome to a refreshing and gloriously unapologetic conversation about health, fitness, and habits. Award-winning trainer Oonagh Duncan cuts through the wellness clutter to drop some truth bombs: It might not be six-pack abs you’re looking for - it might be happiness, confidence, and acceptance. But if losing your belly is what you want, don’t let anyone - including yourself - stop you from going after it. And she’ll show you how to make it happen.
There’s only one major difference between those rare people who have managed to lose weight and the rest of us: their habits. When you acknowledge that following a diet is not getting you anywhere and you make a few small changes to your everyday routine, you’ll find yourself happier and healthy as f--k.

Best book I've listened to in years!
I absolutely loved this book (so much so that I'm listening for a 2nd time). She's able to make building healthy habits relatable and isn't afraid to call out the bullshit we often sell ourselves. Changing our mindset around food from a "diet" mentality to a habit mentality is SO cruicual for positive change. Oonagh does a great job of showing how that shift is possible, and not nearly as hard as we make it out to be.

Dietitians opinion: this book could be dangerous
I have mixed feelings about this book. I am always critical to “fitness experts” writing books with no credentials, just sharing stories of things that have been successful for some people. The first chapter sets you up to believe you won’t be receiving too much critique or specifics, but instead will get overarching themes to success (which I love). Talking about the mental piece is usually under explored in other books. There was minimal mention of seeking out actual professional counseling from a psychologist, psychiatrist, or dietitian. There’s also NO discussion of potential extreme eating behaviors and their consequences (ie eating disorders). Then as the book goes along, it gets WAY to specific, setting people up for ultimate failure. “Don’t eat x grams of sugar,” “meditate for exactly 20 minutes,” these specifics are random and alienating. “Only eat when your hungry” is blatantly inappropriate, given that chronic dieting leads to hormonal imbalances that no longer send normal signals. Unfounded, unwarranted, and wrong.
To wrap it up: please read a variety nutrition books by a nutrition professional (RD, LD). This was like reading a book on cardiovascular surgery by a heart health enthusiast.

I really enjoyed the book but also found it relatable. It is not one of those books that expects you to make a 180° change and maintain it for the rest of your life. Not everyone has the same goals and we all have to find the Balance between what we want and what we are willing and able to do. I’m really glad I got the book. It was worth the time.
