The second book in our Mommy MD Guides book series, The Mommy MD Guide to Your Baby's First Year, is filled with tips that doctors who are also mothers use for their own families during their babies' first years. To create it, we spoke with more than 60 doctors who are also mothers; we call them Mommy MD Guides.

We spoke with many Mommy MD Guides who are still in the trenches with their babies. Some of them were even pregnant when we talked. We also spoke with Mommy MD Guides whose babies are grown up with babies of their own. They are Grammy MD Guides! Combined, these physicians have centuries of experience as doctors, and among them they have 146 children. The 900+ reassuring, trusted, and often even humorous tips in this book are presented in the Mommy MD Guides own words, and each tip is clearly attributed to the doctor who lived it.

The Mommy MD Guide to Your Baby's First Year offers tips on both the challenges and also the celebrations of parenting. You will discover how Mommy MD Guides made it through pesky parenting challenges such as

  • Breast feeding difficulty
  • Tantrums

    "Outdated info."
If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

A waste of time. Get a more current, well researched book. I gave up on this after repeatedly hearing bad advice that is contrary to what parents are being taught today.

    "Not suited as an audiobook"

This book may be excellent to read in print, however IMO is not suitable as an audiobook. There's a reason why it's 15 hours long and it's not just quality content.

There's is a frustrating need to fully introduce every expert before they pass on their advice. It will go something like this: "Dr Elizabeth Smith, specialist in paediatric medicine and current visiting consultant to the Smithfield Children's Hospital in Smithfield and Lakeview Medical Center, Lakeview, mother of two children and co-author of "why kids cry" had this to say....." Then the good doctor's tip will just be a sentence or two long before they move on to the next long introduction. This is the kind of thing you could skim in a printed book, but as an audiobook the listener has to painstakingly trudge through each introduction, which is largely irrelevant and feels like it makes up 70% of the book. There's also an odd tendency throughout to make commercial recommendations, at times sounding like a radio ad. This is along the lines of "Babybees nursing support pillows are soft and comfortable, developed by experts and filled with quality fabrics. You can buy them at babybees.com.au, that's b-a-b-y-b-e-e-s-.-c-o-m. Available at good retailers such as X and X." This again is frustrating and not suited to an audiobook. (Note both these references are illustrative/made up examples only).

Finally, I agree with the previous reviewer that the narrator is unfortunately annoying. She sounds more suited to a relaxation CD and speaks slowly and breathily.

Sadly after an hour I could no longer listen to the book and regret purchasing. However, I do want to say that there is probably some great advice in here and it's a shame that I won't have a chance to hear it.

    "Narrator annoying"

The narrator over pronounces word as if plucked from a yogurt commercial where they say "cReamy yogURt" in a sensual, breathy way. Book itself will set first time parents mind at ease. If you don't mind the narrator it's ok
