Publisher's Summary

This is the age of addiction, a condition so epidemic, so all-encompassing and ubiquitous, that unless you are fortunate enough to be an extreme case, you probably don't know that you have it. What unhealthy habits and attachments are holding your life together? Are you unconsciously dependent on food? Bad relationships? A job that doesn't fulfill you? Numb, constant perusal of your phone, looking for what? My qualification for writing this book is not that I am better than you, it's that I am worse. I am an addict, addicted to drugs, alcohol, sex, money, love and fame.

The program in Recovery has given Russell Brand freedom from all addictions, and it will do the same for you.

This system offers nothing less than liberation from self-centredness, a new perspective, freedom from the illusion of suffering for anyone who is willing to take the necessary steps.

Are you a bit F*cked?

Well if so then this book is for you. Russell breaks down the 12 step program addicts use into simple terms everyone can understand. Russell then takes you through how to implement them into your life to free yourself from any form of addiction.

I loved Russell's last book and even though I already meditate and had solved a lot of my personal issues I still found this book helpful. Most of us have probably had nothing to do with a the 12 steps and Russell demystifies a lot of the religious mumbo-jumbo associated with them.

Whether you're a drug addict, social media addict, use movies and TV to escape reality a little too often this book will help you to recognise and overcome these addictions.

Keep the books coming, Russell, can't wait to see what you write next.

fantastic

If you could sum up Recovery in three words, what would they be?

helpful, interesting, mind opening

What did you like best about this story?

Russell has finally put to good use the extensive experience he has gained through his years of struggle and self analysis - I really think this book is incredibly useful not just to recovering addicts but to everyone who has something in their life that they consider a pattern or problem.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book made me laugh with recognition and cry with relief that some body else gets it

Any additional comments?

I think every single person in the world needs to be self improving all the time which is why I recommend this book. I also think that Russell seems like a genuine guy who is very introspective and thoughtful and everyone can benefit from his insight.

Loved it

Russell Brand is authentic and vulnerable in a way only he can be giving others permission to be authentic and vulnerable themselves. I expect this book will be a powerful tool for positive change in the lives of many. Well done

12 step program with Russells anecdote

Russell introduces several characters in the book such as a female with drug addiction who wants to get into acting school and a homeless soldier with an infected knee. I was hoping to hear the transformational stories from both of these characters but all I heard was severe relapsing which doesnt give the listener much hope about this program.
I sometimes felt Russell exploits their stories and mixes it with the 12 step program. Even while he talks about these concepts in his recent stories of child birth he gets lost in the moment and over reacts. If your looking for a step by step guide, this audio isnt it but if you like to get a perspective of the participants of this program it does share their pain.

life changing

Russell Brand is an extremely articulate, funny and clever human being. This book is making me question every thought I have and what unconscious thoughts are behind the decisions that I make. It is a thought provoking, life changing listen, which I would recommend to everyone.

I was not impressed

Although he covers the 12 steps of AA I found that he used too many epithets to extra narrative that ultimately was superfluous.
He spoke way too fast than normal people do and there were no pauses. Too fast passed and too much literally sauce, that sometimes felt like ranting.
I would not recommend it if you are in a 12 step program already.
Thanks

Narration is awful

I am sure the author meant well with this book but by the end of the second chapter I had to stop listening. I would rather slide down a giant razor blade wearing a helmet full of wasps than listen to him say another word. He extrapolates simple points into overwhelmingly colourful hyperbole to the degree that it loses it's meaning. He needs to make his points WAY more succinctly and also needs to fall out of love with the sound of his own voice in order to be a effective. Only buy this book if you like the sound of fingernails clawing down blackboards.

Terrible

Not useful, annoying and completely full of himself. Basically he has taken the twelve step NA/AA program and added the word ‘fuck’ a lot. Completely useless.
