Publisher's Summary

A highly imaginative and relatable guide for anyone who needs the reassurance that suicide is never worth it.

Are you inclined to escape the crumminess of everyday life into fantasy worlds? Are you smart and imaginative in a way that isn't really suited to your surroundings? Are you definitely misunderstood, likely angry, and almost certainly depressed? Set Sytes, hailing from the UK, would prefer you stay alive and sort things out rather than the alternative, thanks. He figures there are better opportunities for you out there and lays it all out in a way that's compelling, funny, sharp, and useful.

This zine-turned-book (please don't call it a self-help guide, asks the author) is ultimately about how to be a person in the world. It can be done non-miserably, we promise.

Dark Humor on Serious Topic

Content -  The content focuses on providing honesty and hope for young adults who are experiencing suicidal ideation. The content is not sugar coated and tries to provide a sense of dark humor to a serious topic.

Audio Quality - Good, listened via audible.

Overall -  Was a good listen, simple to follow along with.

Recommendation - . Recommend to young adults with a darker sense of humor who are experiencing suicidal ideation, major depression or are a friend to someone experiencing these illnesses.

Awesome take on a tough subject

I love this approach. It was said in a way that respects the realistic outlook of not wanting to live anymore, while having a dark humor about the subject, it was still said in a tasteful way that was not taking away from the seriousness of the topic. I think this approach will help many people who are struggling with life and do not want to hear the sugar-coated version of self-help books. Some of the obvious and typical suggestions are in it, but as he clearly states, not everyone will relate to things, nor will every suggestion work for everyone. Personally, I'm impressed with the way the topic was written about and believe the approach taken is enough to start a conversation with friends or family who are interested in learning about ways to approach someone in their life struggling with suicide ideation. I would recommend this to both psychologists and psychiatrist and hope it was able to reach those people who would really benefit from this approach.

What just happened

Well, I had such high hopes…

I really wanted it to not let me down in fact I sent a text to my friend ‘I’m listening a really good book and I hope it doesn’t let me down like every other ‘self-help book’ I think like he said reading it won’t do anyone any more harm but …

When it started to do the whole drink water, get dressed every, day play video games, and be creative... I just laughed out loud like I couldn’t believe it - such a let down. Although, he had many good justifications of these things and a great take on being medicated.

He punched down other SH books- at least other self help books give actual psychological coping mechanisms not just get dressed look good and go to the shops like all of us so EVERYday. I really think the author should have ran with what magic he started with the beginning was straight up helpful, connecting and then what an offensive ending… could have concluded on such a powerful note and advice or final thoughts not just how good the book is doing although a great story about how this game about the opening already covered it.

I want to say I’m kinda glad they cancelled Gotham for him letting me down & talking about that for like 3 whole minutes.
