Publisher's Summary

The Manipulator

I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me.

I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh.

But my words don't affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave.

He's always there, watching and waiting.

And I can never look away.

Not when I want him to come closer.

The Shadow

I didn't mean to fall in love.

But now that I have, I can't stay away.

I'm mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves.

The way she undresses...

I'll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine.

And once she is, I'll never let her go.

Not even when she begs me to.

While not required, it is highly suggested to listen to the novella Satan's Affair first.

Author's Note: This book ends on a cliff-hanger. For CWs, please check the author's website.

What the ....

what in the rape fetish did I just read...The main male character is the most self important arse I've ever come across and the female lead is an actual idiot.
Won't bother with the rest of the series, this was enough of a struggle.

So many conflicted feelings about this book

Yeah, I know. I’m one of the few… but this one just didn’t do it for me.

I really didn’t like the MMC, Zade. He is such a contradiction in the story, both a saviour and the devil, I just couldn’t get my head around him. He’s portrayed as this righteous hero who has dedicated his life fighting against evil and corruption, particularly those dealing in the flesh trade, but in his private life he’s this psycho stalker who is obsessed with the FMC, Addie, and terrifies the poor woman on a weekly basis because he’s decided that she is his new plaything. Hello! Kettle calling the pot black!!!

I thought the plot line that focused around taking down “The Society” was pretty good, and it definitely kept me interested in the storyline. I really wanted to know what happened to the baddies in the book, but the dialogue between Zade and Addie was so cringe worthy at times, and some of the things Zade said to her definitely got an eye roll or two. 🙄

The story ended on a cliffhanger, but I don’t know whether I should to continue or not. I’d like to know what happens to the MMCs and members of The Society, but the question is… Can I endure listening to more of “Crude Corny Zade’s” dialogues and introspection? Mmmmm… that’s the million dollar question. 🤔

I couldn't even finish and now a bit traumatised..

I don't even know where to start with this one.. It was soooo hard to listen to.
The characters were infuriating, both in Zade's hypocritical nature of saving women and then wanting to prey, hurt and rape them [Addie] - he is just as bad as those he's killing. Addie's mind and thought processes are so back and forth she does not even begin to make sense.. I just cant. I know there was a warning at the start but jeeeeeze this is not my cup of tea.

I have issues with it.

I too made my way here after a spicy TikTok review and I'm just so confused about what this is. Is it how the book justifies abuse? Or how the storyline pits a paedophile ring alongside what is supposed to be a kinky 'love' story?

I gotta say, not only is it wrong, it's just bad. I forced my way to the end only so that I could legitimately write this review.

Clearly the story is intended to be second to the kink but gosh, the fact that the scenario is so blatantly abusive and hinges on a fundamental lack of consent, I just wasn't prepared.

I get that this is fiction and I like when fiction has the ability to take the reader to a different reality but for me, the key point is in the way the book rationalises abuse, lack of consent, brutal violence in a really poor and dangerous way. Like just let it be what it is without trying to justify and rationalise it.

Needless to say, I won't read the second part.

Perfect narration

Teddy and Michelle really bring Addy and Zane to life, while the story is amazing, Teddy has the perfect voice for Zade

Seriously, check those TWs. Not for the faint of ❤

Okay so this book is definitely for mature adults... 21+. And the trigger warnings need to be taken seriously. This is a full on dark stalker romance with some murder mystery elements. A lot of darker themes are tackled here and as a reader you need to be smart about knowing what you're walking into. I disagree with the sheer number of poor reviews on this book strictly due to the fact that the readers were unprepared for the disturbing and dark content.

I am rating this book 4 stars because the plot and story are very intriguing. Not to mention the cliffhanger at the end which had me beside myself. Some of the sexual content in this book was tough for me to read, I just don't think stalkers are sexy but Zade did grow on me as the book progressed but I still found the romance tough to swallow. The murder of her great grandmother was such a cool addition to the plot. I found her little journal entries to be riveting and the fact that Adaline had more going on than just her stalker made the character feel more rounded.

This is not a book I'd recommend you read at night. It gets spooky and eerie at points which could give you some effed up dreams. Don't say I didn't warn you!

okay, listen.

I've read the book series twice. (if you like super dark and kinky stuff thatll make you question your mental well being, this is for you!)

-but let me tell you!!!! the MOMENT I heard my man Teddy's voice being the narrator, it didn't matter if I've read the series or not. I HAD to buy the audiobook. I need this man to narrate my life.

A Q anon wet dream

I’m a fan of dark romance but this is beyond me. The guy and his organization and goals just reek of q anon propaganda. His code name is literally Z while taking down the government. Also he’s just a massive self contradiction, fighting against human trafficking and sex crimes while actively stalking a woman and assaulting her. The book does acknowledge this but it remains a paradox.

Very “Twilight”-esque Plot with romanticized stalking

the book can be split up into three parts: 1, crazy stalker; 2, learning more about crazy stalker, 3, falling in love with crazy stalker. The author tries to make you like the stalker even though everything he does is very similar if not the same to the exact people he’s supposed to be stopping... by the time Adeline started falling in love with Z, he had already done so much messed up stuff to her while thinking what he was doing, was justifiable, but at the same time, Z was disgusted by, and actively working to thwart pedophile, human traffickers, and rapists. He stalks her, rapes her, sexually assaults her, manipulates her and more. By the time she started falling in love with him, I already hated him, and saw no justification for the way he treated her. His character is irredeemable.

Separately, I had an issue with the way the male voice actor said “pussy“. It always sounds like he saying poo-sea lmao

yes, Yes, YES!!! New favorite book!!!

I'll preface my review by saying that I may be just a touch biased because I've been looking for this exact book (not literally, but figuratively), for MONTHS, and I cannot understand some of the reviews I've read. Yes, there's triggers, we get it, but everyone can make their own decision on whether to read it or not and people seem extremely focused on that for a book that's been pretty open about the fact that this is not one for the faint of heart.

The reviews saying that this book contains actual rape... the line is blurry but I've listened to books that had such content and it did not feel like it did listening to this book. It wasn't triggering to me, but that's just me. She's not running for the hills or calling the cops anymore after he reveals himself and it feels more like a game between them. Adeline certainly feels obligated to respond the way she SHOULD, but it's important to note that she WANTS to respond to him positively rather than negatively, regardless of what society expects her to feel in such a situation. That's my take on it, and I've read a lot of books with dubious consent in addition to none at all; compared to those, this one didn't make me feel uncomfortable about consent as those did.

ANYWAY, this is an excellent dark romance with a stalker and his prey, kinky play, and the undiluted adrenaline rush that comes from being both terrified by a man and also being turned on by him simultaneously. I love these kinds of books, and this one is probably one of the best ones I've ever read/listened to. Everything about it had me on the edge of my seat! I swear, it's like the author created a book just for me, using my own personality as Adeline. She and I are so similar, it's crazy, and I love it. She's a sassy, non-nonsense kind of woman that knows her worth and isn't ashamed of who she is in the slightest, and I love that about her. The last 3 books I've read have all had overly submissive, nearly braindead females as the MC and I am so sick of it; they would take entire books or a whole series to grow themselves a backbone and it was purely credited to the man in their lives, so this was such a breath of fresh air!

Not only that, but the writing lately in many dark romance books.... it's been awful, in my opinion. The cringe-worthy lines I've been hearing have actually caused me to literally roll my eyes and stop listening to books because they were just that stupid and even uncomfortable. This one is not like any of those, in my opinion, with writing that had me enraptured. The sexy scenes make you flush just listening to them and by no means feel cringy in any way. I may be putting it on a pedestal, but I can't find it in myself to care. I'm just so glad to have found this book, it was just what I wanted and was looking for but unable to find until now.

Lastly, I talked about Adeline, but I have to mention that "Shadow" is also an excellent character; well fleshed-out, with just the right mix of darkness and light, not quite a jerk but not nice either, I love it all! The narration too.... Teddy Hamilton has always been excellent but gosh, he's stellar in this book, as is Michelle Sparks. You can't get better narrators than these two, truly.
I'm moving on to the second book ASAP. so basically, if you like your dark romances with just a touch of taboo and understand the allure of a man being utterly obsessed with you, then this one may be for you. That said, has quite a few possible triggers, so be warned of that. But wow, was this one ever worth the credit I spent on it. Okay, I'll stop gushing now, but really, what are you waiting for? Get this book!!!!

Creepy, glorified rape with no hope of a story

Truly awful. There’s no story just a lazily written ‘mystery’ plot peppered with assault scenes. I imagine the author was trying to spin the assault as kink but both the writing and the author’s understanding of kink are just the worst. The male lead is given such wholly creepy dialogue that he borders on incel territory - female lead shows a personality? Call her “a bad little girl” and cum in her face. Honestly, he might as well be narrating himself in that gross m’lady dialogue. I gave up on the book half way in and only made it that far because I couldn’t return it.

Incredible, but mind the TWs.

Mind those TWS! they're not for show.

Absolutely fantastic book, I cannot wait for the next installment. I think I might just buy the actual book so I'll get to know what's gonna happen, I don't know of I can wait. S tier performance by Teddy Hamilton and Michelle Sparks as per usual. It was as terrifying as it was tantalizing and I may never recover. I usually HATE books ending on a cliffhanger, but this feels earned somehow.

Overall incredible. Just, be sure you're not getting in to something you'll feel bad about, some of this stuff is pretty gnarly.

2 stories in 1. And they don’t mesh!

Really really wanted to love this book!
And I did. Except I loved one of the stories. The one with the dark anti hero stalking and getting closer to his victim. The haunting, the mystery. I loved the Dubious Consent thing.

BUT!
There’s a parallel story where our dark knight is also a hero chasing pedophiles, witch, u know, is a good thing!
The problem is that these seem like 2 stories and the author couldn’t choose.
The hero fighting trafficking of kids and women just doesn’t mesh with the anti hero.

This should have been 2 separate books!

Also, unfortunately, the parts about pedophiles flaunts the false craziness that basically every rich person or person in government are pedophiles, except of course the extremely rich hero trying to crush the pegophile rings…

Pedophelia is one of the worst crimes out there but… The books idea about how pedofile rings work are just weird and wrong in so many ways. (Look, I’ve worked with these issues!!!)
And by doing so it actually hinders us from seeing real pedofiles, the people living next door that we like and so on, the teacher, the friendly guy in church, the one who doesn’t look like a predator.

So, had it been the haunting, the dark anti hero and the roses this book would have been a 5!!!!

Unfortunately the author didn’t have a good publisher who could have made this 2 different books (and helped sort out the “the entire government are pedofiles” thing)

I wish someone could just sort the book out!
I would have loved to love it!

Some interesting elements but fairly juvenile

This author could develop into a real talent but this reads a bit like fan fiction. She does write great angry sec scenes and their attraction was intriguing. Plot elements were were pretty cliche and very Qanon. That could be ok if better executed.
