Publisher's Summary

Hattie finds herself relegated to the factory floor on her return from the war. Her workmates are unforgiving at Hattie's attempt to raise herself up, and she is soon ostracised. After journeying to Australia to marry her husband, Clara is betrayed and returns penniless, homeless and trying to raise a child alone.

Lou's daughter and parents are killed by a bomb blast. By day she works at the factory; by night she roams the bomb sites, half mad with grief. These women forge a bond that will ultimately allow them to find hope.

Hattie's Home

Another fantastic story, enjoyed immensely from the first page till the last, liked all the characters weak and strong, found it quite sad in places due to the brilliant narration by Anne Dover who I hope Mary Gibson sticks with for all her books.
Do hope there is another book to follow on.
Have also enjoyed Mary Gibson other books

1) Custard tarts and Broken Hearts
2) Bourbon Creams and Tattered Dreams

And two stand alones
Jam an Roses
The Gunner Girls and Fighter Boys

I'd recommend all books ..

Heartwarming

I felt that I was in the story myself.
I loved all the characters except the Harpers, especially Lennie. Ronnie stole my heart. I wanted to get to the end to find out what happens but hated it when I did!
I would highly recommend this book.

Loved it

I’ve listened to all of these stories now and low the way the characters interlace between books. I get very attached to each family and somehow she weaves her magic and I’m enthralled with a different family in a different book. Really enjoyed them.

Not For Me

This has to be the most boring book I’ve ever read or listened to. The plot is thin and predictable while the characters are uninteresting and un-engaging . It tells a story in 27 chapters that could have easily been told in 5 but for me it needn’t have been told at all. Sorry this just wasn’t my thing.
