About this listen

Austen comes to England knowing that as an American he'll stick out at his new school. But when an errant owl lands him at Hogwarts, he's in for more than he expected.

And as if it’s not hard enough being the only American at Hogwarts, Austen’s sorted into the most despised of all the houses. Then bumbling around the dungeon while trying to find his common room, he unwittingly helps the monster from the Chamber of Serpents. Will he discover the secret of the chamber before he becomes another victim of He-who-must-not-be-named?

it felt like there are parts where it tries to be careful with names and such and then other times when it's hilariously obvious they don't care lol. I will be listening to this alot ngl. I love the idea of the slithering and griffindore friendship

it's honestly good

So like very nice like keeping the canon hp story but adding stuff so harry didn’t do EVERYTHING by himself bbbuuuuuuuuuttt it might have been better if it was a little more around Austin and why did mj ware mispronounce everything on purpose cuz some of the canon names are kinda important

Ok but

I laughed, a lot. Now when I read HP there really is a miles who is scared of house elves and an Alex who was mentored by Dumbledore... makes me wonder what he thought of umbridge and the tri wizard tournament.

a great story

Overall I enjoyed the book; it was entertaining. I liked trying to figure out how the author would weave this new character into the events of the second Harry Potter book. I also found the original premise of the book to be very interesting, more so than the actual book. The idea of an actual muggle finding their way into Hogwarts through some kind of mistake would have been very interesting.

Anyway, I personally found the story a bit anticlimactic and mundane, simply because the main character actually wasn't the main character of this story. there was no climactic scene at the end so the book was just a series of events that happened. The story would have been more compelling if the author hadn't confined themselves to the story of the second Harry Potter book and instead crafted their own story centred around their main character, using the wizarding world as worldbuilding or a jumping off point.

For example, what if Austin was actually a muggle and he some how found himself at Hogwarts through a mix up? Maybe a wizard got his school letter for a muggle school and Austin got the letter intended for them? This would have been an interesting juxtaposition. And if Austin and this wizard had been friends before the events of the book (maybe grown up together) this would have added tension. what if Austin would think he couldn't tell his best friend about him being at Hogwarts an vis versa for the wizard kid.

Anyway, overall it was entertaining and a good laugh.
