Story
Harley Merlin can sense people's emotions, among other things. It's how she snagged her first job pinpointing cheaters at a casino. But she has no clue where she got these freakish powers because she spent her childhood jumping from home to home in the foster system, and her father left her with nothing more than a cryptic note. Then she crosses paths with a terrifyingly real monster. Which is when a mysterious and annoyingly arrogant young warlock named Wade Crowley steps in, introducing her to a hidden world of beasts, magicals, and covens riddled with secrets.

Finch is in deep, with no surface in sight. He hadn’t expected a welcoming party when they whirlpooled into Atlantis - although “welcoming” isn’t exactly the right word. More like “mildly hostile”. As descendants of the powerful Primus Anglicus, the Atlanteans are not to be trifled with. But Erebus isn’t leaving until he gets what he wants - and neither is Davin. Caught in the midst of a political battle royale, Finch can only ride out the waves. And he knows he’ll be lucky to escape this underwater prison without leaving anyone behind.

Story
Like most sane people, student Alex Webber thought he was hallucinating - perhaps he'd consumed something bad at the party he'd been attending that night, or he was severely overtired. But when he sees the mysterious man following Natalie again the very next day, he can no longer disbelieve his eyes. Although she denies the man's existence, Alex sees her walking with him down a road in his neighborhood he's never seen before - and can't help but follow.

Story
I celebrated when vampires were declared extinct. Those beasts had preyed on humanity for millennia, committing senseless, brutal murders. Like the rest of my colleagues at the Occult Bureau, I looked forward to a world where we could all sleep at night - where constant cover-up jobs were no longer required to keep the public calm and unaware. But the end of vampires wasn't the end of our problems. It was only the beginning.

Good story but slow
- By Anonymous User on 23-07-2020
Publisher's Summary
Five rituals to control Chaos. That’s all it takes.
Now that Harley knows her enemy’s grand plan - to become a godlike Child of Chaos and punish those deemed “unworthy” - she’s got to figure out what the heck to do about it. Many of the missing magicals are still out there, and Katherine has vowed to kill everyone Harley cares about and make her watch.
So that’s fun.
Just when it seems like things can’t get much worse, one of the most precious monsters of the Bestiary escapes, and Harley is sure that Katherine has her dirty hands involved. But that crazy witch had better be ready because Harley has finally figured out a way to unleash her powers - although the cost might not be worth it.
Astrid, a human living amongst magicals, is just as determined to thwart Katherine’s schemes. At the same time, her budding romance with the Coven’s trademark bad boy has earned her father’s disapproval, and it seems like betrayal is lurking around the corner....

I think I'm done.
I think I'm done with this series. The premise is good; I feel connected to the characters and I like how it feels as though the typical magic and typical superpowers are combined; I think that's very unique. However, it feels like the story is just not fully developed: the plot is predictable and the foreshadowing is so blatant, it's making it hard for me to want to continue. I think the narrator does a very good job, but feels as though the author split this story into waaay to many installments for the sake of profitability and I'm having a hard time wanting to spend more money on this series.

slow moving and poor character growth
the concept of the book is good. but there is 0 character growth outside "blooming love interest". characters keep making the same types of errors and choices from book to book. honestly, it's getting old. I'll stick with it because the plot is interesting. but I've stopped feeling sympathy or compassion for the characters. it's a little like watching to many nic cage movies. because there's no growth in the characters, you just kind of feel like you're on replay every time a new situation comes up.

Too Slow, Too Juvenile, Poorly Narrated but I’m still reading all of them?
Ok - so I have to give credit where it’s due and admit to the fact that despite my continuously low star rating, I have listened through 4 books and will likely finish the series. So acknowledging the achievement in that, I will lay out my concerns. (1) Why does the author insist on telling us things we literally just heard ten minutes ago? You don’t need to almost verbatim repeat the same points. Especially when each character already knows too and you’re not explaining their epiphanies to us. (2) The narrator. I love how she does Harley and Alton. But everyone else, especially the accent work, is very sloppy, inconsistent and just plain wrong at times. I could not have done this better if my life depended on it. And I’m sure voicing this many characters is a challenging if not down right impossible job. But there are so many talented people putting out narrations on audible - maybe they would have been better suited to the challenge. I cannot differentiate between Astrid and Harley, the accents dip in and out for Tatiana and for others. I don’t know. It’s just kind of shotty work where another voice actor might have lent atmosphere to a somewhat lacking bit of writing. (3) Which brings me to my last point. I’ve read books about 16 year olds that had more depth and development than this book about a supposed 19 year old. Granted, this does feel age appropriate where those books have seemed reaching for what a 16 year old might be like, but I was surprised at how juvenile the characters are at times, especially Harley.

Too short
For 1 credo there should be 2 of these books. The narrator is wonderful.and does an amazing job with the different characters. Took 5 books to make it to the fist kiss? There are 9 books? That’s a lot of credits and not sore the series is worth it.

Definitely not what I was hoping for! :(
The narration was good, but at times the voices of different characters would blend together. But that was not the main problem of this book. It not only lagged, but the agonizing unspoken feelings of Wade and Harley drones on and on and got to be pretty irritating. Not to mention the forever beaten to death mentality of “I can’t tell anyone my secret to protect them so I’m in this alone”, is just annoying and overused as heck! This book seemed to take up a lot of time and energy to barely get a half step forward in their mission. I don’t know if that’s intentional, but it sure was disappointing. I don’t think I’m going to chance finishing the series. It’s just so drawn out! I got so tired of hearing about the “telekinetic lasso” I thought I was gonna lose my mind. I wish I wouldn’t have wasted the credit on this book! I gave it two stars instead of one because it had the potential to be better and the storyline is decent. I at least wasn’t crazy upset about it, but it could have been so much better.

Its okay
These books are repetitive. It's the same thing over and over. Wade and Harley still haven't made any moves. And the group continuously fails. I have tried to give it a chance but I can't listen anymore. After 4 books I feel like more should be happening. That aside the narrator is amazing.

Great - almost
Loved the book and the narrator - with the exception that she stopped using Astrid’s voice in this one. Half the time, I couldn’t tell if it was Astrid or Harley talking. In the other books so far, Astrid definitely had her own voice. But I mean, it can not be easy being the voice of every character!!

I was loosing my way a bit with the last book. But I persevered and I am glad I did. This one has so much more action. Some parts come together and you get a better understanding of certain people and situations. I am still always guessing who the bad guy is and I like that element. Off to get book 5.
