Disappointing

More than 10 authors on this book and they are almost entirely old rich white cis men. I only listened to about 50% but I found it mostly predictable, unrelatable and disappointing.

Loosely tied together mix of old & older Articles

I did not like just putting a bunch of articles together that had lots of buzz words and examples and minimal research.

More distinction between articles

The articles selected are interesting. I found I had read a few of them before but it was fine to listen to the repeats again. My biggest complaint is the lack of distinction between articles. I wanted them to sort subject matter into groups or more distinctly state the title. The switch between narrators was fine, but after a few articles, I lost track of which one I was on since some of the subject matter bleeds together. Overall, it was fine but I wouldn't go out of my way to listen again.

It's ok.

Standard business advice. One chapter is essentially a summary of "Good to Great". Not much of it is really memorable. I'd suggest reading highly-rated individual leadership books instead of this anthology of essays.

Interesting Read/Listen on Leadership!

This HBR's must-read is similar to the others in that series; It lists some very interesting and thoughtful articles and/discussions on the presented topic, in this case Leadership. There are certainly ideas that every leader (or leader to be) can use to improve on oneself! It never is too late to start looking in the mirror!!!

meh

A hodgepodge of articles that make lots of secondary assertions (often conflicting) without sufficient background. a little arrogant in the approach.

This is worth your time to listen to.

Packed full of gems of insight, delivered in an engaging way. In my opinion what makes this unique is each piece is written with a sense of authenticity and respect for the readers time. In other words I learned how these leaders have all tamed their egos in a way that resembles each other - even though their content, opinions, and perspectives waver. This is why I recommend this purchase.

Didn't learn much

The book describes leaders climbing a scale of competency from 1 to 5, with leaders being able to have several different characteristics "achievers, strategists, experts, etc". A host of contemporary business leader examples were given amd how they miraculously turned a failing multi-million dollar business around, often with the person in question remaining unnamed for privacy reasons - which created a sense that the whole thing was fictional - how does the author have access to what was said in private meetings? I found the whole reasoning arbitrary, I wouldn't recommend this book.

I expected more

HBR is for high level executives so I did not expect quite so much stating of the obvious. Yes there were some of interesting parts, especially anecdotes from the lives of some business leaders but you pay for that by wading through much that is tedious, repetitive and delivered in a rather boring diction. Unfortunately I bought several of this series when the sale was on and can only hope the others are better.

Difficulty in navigating

This is worth a listen for anyone interested in leadership. The accompanying PDF is very limited in information and in general I found this audible offering as being limited in value, for example, as this maybe read, not as a story where you move from one chapter to the next, but dip in and out of chapters as required the lack of chapter titles in the index is frustrating.

Even for experienced managers a great listen

I came at this from a management point of view who is running a fast growing company and wants to get prepped for future pitfalls and listen to some great expert insight

This ticked all the boxes for me . I am familiar with Drucker and a few of the other writers already and enjoyed he use of real cases to enforce the messages being given

Leadership insights from the field

Helpful to essays about leadership providing some clarity on management vs leadership. My top recommendations from the essays are: What makes a leader? What makes an effective executive? Why should anyone be led by you? Discovering your authentic leadership In praise of the incomplete leader

Very Informative

I enjoyed the book thoroughly. I am not middle management neither an executive but found it helpful none the less. There are further readings mentioned throughout the book that is appreciated. Would love a follow up on the book as some of the companies mentioned has gone under this year and the future of South Africa is not so rosy as portrayed.
