Gustavo está al cuidado de su tía Milagros cuando sus padres se marchan de viaje. Él nunca ha tenido miedo, pero éste aparece cuando la tía le dice que si no se come toda la comida, el bicho de la oscuridad se lo llevará con él. A partir de ese momento comienza a sentir miedo por todo: a levantarse por la noche para ir al c uarto de baño, a que su tía le regañe, incluso a salir a la calle. Gustavo quiere vencerlos, pero no lo logra. Hasta que una tarde, viendo a un pajarillo que quiere emprender su primer vuelo, se da cuenta de que tiene que hacerlo poco a poco.
