About this listen

Morgan used to be a pretty normal guy. He went to college by day and played online games by night, leading his guild into new conquests - until he got hit by a car and a dude wearing a wet suit appeared in front of him. The man offered him a new chance at life in a world he had created, a world with similar rules to the games Morgan loved to play. There is the promise of great rewards and power, he says, if Morgan manages to complete the Tower of Power. Stupid name, I know.

Morgan didn't usually trust strangers who seem to have god complexes, but he was in a pinch. There's a crazy-looking dude saying he is technically not a god on one end of the tunnel and a blinding light on the other end - and he was really not digging the light.

So he accepted the offer from the surfer god-not-god.

Getting dropped into a strange new world with no idea what the rules are was not something Morgan was a fan of; and in this strange world, it seems like everything is out to eat his face. It was a good thing, then, that he stumbled onto two half-elf twins willing to help him get the hang of this strange new world.

Now, all he needs to do is survive long enough to reach this tower.

good story line but person who's telling story could improve and sexual scenes as well, find the MC bit stupid and pathetic in his skills, hope they improve the MC as his not using all his skills which is dissapointing and can't his life nature have healing and limb growth..???

alright but still dumb MC

This book started so well! Great setup, great writing, actually funny one-liners. I thought this was going to be a really fun read. But then we got to the romance, which was just ham-fisted. And then we hit the hero's tragic past, similarly poorly done… and my opinion changed.

This is a mediocre read with occasional bright, shining moments pulled down by equally awkward, cringeworthy sections. The action is well described but not engaging. Everything felt very teen, but some of the subject matter was not. The world is well imagined but character motivations aren’t. An example, in a world where anyone can choose to literally have superpowers, 99% of the population want to just be ordinary.

Narration wasn't my cup of tea either, though I won't mark the book down for it. The narrator speaks as if he's telling a fairy-tale. Not quite 'talking down' to the reader as if they were a little kid, but with a lilt and intonation that didn't really do it for me.

When its good, this book is good. But it's not good enough, for me, to want to read book two.

Mediocre LitRPG

I enjoyed the story, it did take a touch too long to kick into gear but once it got going I wanted to hear how it ended.

worth a listen

An amusing tale with serious undertones, the MC is a bumbling, socially awkward student from Earth, thrown in the deep end of a new world, with game like rules! Ultimately he has to learn a new culture while trying to look ‘cool’ and knowledgeable

Has potential, easy listening

Story: The overall world is great, and though there do seem to be a few rails for the MC, it was nothing overt. The Tower isn't overly original, but the story behind it makes that not matter in the slightest.

Characters: The MC dose a good job of feeling natural and compelling. The side characters are a little more one dimensional, but they don't detract from the story.

Overview: Should you read it? Yeah, its worth your time.

Very Interesting World

I enjoyed it. Bit short only 8 hours still a simple enjoyment out of an easy listening story

Story was good

an interesting story but too many repeats when levelling up I only need to know which levels have progressed.

Great read, only gripes would be levels attained too quickly and easily and little secondary character depth. Also secondary character voices wooden at times.

Great story, really enjoyed

The narrator was ok for the most part but there wasn’t a lot of inflection in his voice.

The writing is average at best and I doubt the book was professionally proofread. Sentence structure and grammar are a bit off.

The reactions of the main character were overdone and almost cartoonish while the rest of the party might as well be cardboard cutouts.

The fan service to Critical Role is also very real and gives off some strong fanfiction vibes

Not super impressed

Perhaps this story wasn't for me, but the good things - the performance from the VAs were good, also there was aspects of the story i enjoyed the world building, the system even

however, there were aspects that ultimately made me decide I wouldn't be continuing this series, the MC has the temperament and attitude you'd expect from someone in their low teens, and it ultimately just came across as obnoxious and intentionally grating.

but worse than that I felt certain aspect of the story were just ultimately rushed and shoehorned in, such as the "oh hey new world, here's the 1st girl I see, now we'll be in love for the rest of our life" or "we reached a town and the 1st person we meet betrays us and tries to kill us"

Parts were enjoyable
