Publisher's Summary

Kidnapped, betrayed and fighting to survive, Tom Gray is back with a vengeance.

After the terrorist explosion in which he is believed to have died, Tom Gray has been living a quiet life in the Philippines as Sam Grant, under the watchful eye of his government handler, James Farrar.

His peace is short-lived; Farrar recruits him for a mission that needs Grant’s particular skills, but fate intervenes when Grant is taken hostage in the southern islands by Abu Sayyaf, a militant organization, and comes face-to-face with a dangerous former enemy.

Reintroducing Tom Gray, the inimitable man-of-action, Gray Resurrection is an exciting and fast-paced thriller with an explosive conclusion.

good, but short

This was a good book, but too short to warrant being a stand-alone audio book.

Excellent second book in the Tom Gray series!

As Tom Gray works to fully recover from his injuries from Book 1 in the series, he is captured by a Muslim terrorist group in the Phillippines. He is offered to the British for ransom. British Intelligence groups are not exactly interested in him leaving the Phillippines alive.

Gray Resurrection is an excellent action thriller. I still believe Book 3 and later novels in the series will become 5 star espionage thrillers. Author Alan McDurmott has definitely hit upon a successful concept..

Bit of a Book 2 Let-Down

The premise of "Gray Justice," the first book in this series, wasn't particularly believable, but it was a unique story that introduced a number of interesting characters, and was so suspenseful I was more than willing to suspend disbelief. I downloaded the second book, "Gray Resurrection," even before I finished the first one.

Not sure what I was expecting from Book 2 (though the title gives something away), but it disappointed me. I had trouble grasping the concept of the British government keeping Gray alive (at great expense) but his existence a secret (at even greater expense) even though they apparently really want him dead... say what? There is also a love-at-first-sight storyline that seemed out of place (and this from a woman who loves a good love story).

The military action part of the story is well done, and action, admittedly, accounts for most of this short, well edited book. There's suspense and plenty of combat detail (i.e., lots of military acronyms) to add verisimilitude, but it doesn't drag out like some books of this type (yes, I refer to the late Tom Clancy, whose influence on author Alan McDermott is palpable).

"Resurrection" is only half of a story, however. It ends with a cliffhanger as our hero narrowly escapes the Philippines and the surveillance of his evil British overlords to embark on a long and (we assume) perilous journey back to England and (judging by the title of the next book) "Gray Redemption."

Another Terrific Adventure with Tom Gray

I loved the 1st book in the series, Gray Justice, which had a cliff hanger ending. This book picks up a couple years later and again ends with a cliff hanger ending.

I read several authors whose books can be read in any order. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THOSE. You really must start at the beginning. While each story is intended as a standalone, each really is a part of a greater whole story. Thus, this book really is a sequel and a prequel.

I am not an easy rater. I give very few fives, but this is enjoyable enough to merit the fives.

Narrator is fine but doesn't add anything to merit the fifth star.

Great story and concept

The characters and plot of the story are realistic and believable. To me, the book moved fast and was easy to read.

Only Shades of Gray

I'll be the first to admit that whatever its shortcoming might have been I really did enjoy the first book in this series, Gray Justice. This one has many of the same hallmarks, plenty of well-described action, brevity and good editing leading to a decent pace to the story and so on.

What it lacked were the really clever twists that for me really made the first book. Here the twist is more pronounced but given the investment that has gone into him previously doesn't seem to fit logically and the love interest part of the story seems just a little clumsy.

James Langton does a solid enough job of the narration as you would expect but is clearly beaten by the accent demands on him in the dialogue.

In all it's still a fun, brief story but it doesn't have quite the impact of the first installment.

The next step in Grey's journey

Any additional comments?

This is the next book in what is clearly going to be a series. While I gave a score of 4 stars to story and overall this is only because I felt it was not quite as good as the first book (but still very enjoyable). The narration by James Langton was still as excellent though. Looking forward to listening to the third book in the series.

Action and thrills all the way!

Long gap between the first two books but the action and excellent writing keeps on coming. Keeps the reader engaged thousand leaves you wanting more. I will now happily progress to the next instalment. Thoroughly recommend!

Poor

Book 1 was worth listening to but book 2 was very poor. Boring story lots of detail about weapons used. Sorry to say I have bought the next 3 books for my kindle reader. Don't think they will be read.

The Twists Continue!

I listened to this in 1 sitting, immediately after concluding the first novel. The twists in this series, continue and I'm just about to go to book three!

This is not your usual SAS novel. Neither is it too staid or too gung ho! But it is interesting, exciting and informative! If you haven't 'read' the first book, don't 'read' this until you do.

The narration gets better and the story is unique. No cliffhanger this time, but a strong enough lead in to desire to know what happens next!!

Enjoy!
