Publisher's Summary

The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing, and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist. Put New York Times best-selling authors Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett together...and all Hell breaks loose.

Fantastic performance of a fantastic fantasy novel

The book itself itself is wonderful, although it is an acquired taste. At first I wasn’t all that thrilled with the narrator, but he soon grew on me, and I now think he was the perfect narrator.

In fact I relistened to the first chapter and I now think he was amazing.

Ultimately I would absolutely recommend this book. It’s amazing!

Silly

A one trick pony that becomes dull before it even gets started. A shame for Gaiman but on form.for Pratchett.

Couldn't finish - not for me

Interesting premise but couldn't get past the pointless dribble. You really have to like Hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy and that type of humor to progress through this book.

better off reading it

good story but the audio book changes scenes without the break in the page to help you know and it can be a bit confusing keeping up... would highly suggest to read this over listen

Not for me...

I loved Neil Gaiman's American Gods and also Anansi Boys and this book was recommended to me by the same friend that recommended the others. As another review has already stated, if you like Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy you'll like the style of writing in this book. But for me it did my head in, the thoughts of the characters and the story felt like they were all over the place and trying to be too clever, I couldn't get past the second chapter and will be returning it. Wish I could return Hitch Hikers Guide too but I left it too late. It's a shame because I remember reading Terry Pratchett such as The Carpet People and also some Disc World stuff as a child and really enjoying.

Not the best version

You’ll find better audio versions of this book elsewhere (and apparently could find it here until recently), but this is currently the only one here, presumably because it’s the newest. Martin Jarvis reads well, but I disagree with some of his choices in characters’ voices.
I’ll return it as soon as the Stephen Briggs version becomes available again.

Just too long winded

Good story, but they could have cut 30% and it would have been a better book.

What else can you do after you finish the Amazon mini series?

I watched the (mini) series but - obviously - needed more! Which is why I downloaded this audiobook :) It did the trick, although I believe the film version was better than the book (something that happens way too rarely). In any case, I enjoyed the audiobook and can recommend!

Even the 4th time round, this book is awesome

This is the only book I’ve ever read more than once.
I simply love the dark humour of Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.

Martin Jarvis did them proud . His narration is flawless.

Great introduction to Pratchett!

Narrator does an excellent job of incarnating the ineffably joyous world of Pratchett and Gaiman.

Book owns

Id thought the TV series (which I watch 2 times before book) was very accurate. I still think, but twice the amount of fun in book, as well as some of special effects was ofcourse made for TV. God (has?) forbid the possibility that any TV or movie ending make people actually have to imagine what will happen. Example "Sopranos"...

Anyway, well worth time even if seen TV serie

Superb in every way possible

You would think that Gaiman and Pratchet by themselves are quite capable of taking you on a journey you never could imagine. Top that and sprinkle on the magic that Jarvis adds with his narration, it’s been the most entertaining audiobook I’ve ever played. Thank you all.

Top class storytelling!

Martin Jarvis is, beyond question, one of the greatest voice artists of our time. He could read out a tax return and leave you eager to hear more. Then add Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett - two of the greatest storytellers of our time - and this was obviously going to be a winning combination. I thought this was just perfect.

Gets better each time I listen

One of those books you can listen to repeatedly, it's comfortable but exciting, the humour is a constant undercurrent but doesn't get in the way of the story. Characters are well defined and narrated, and the worlds going to end right after teatime. Damien with a rueful smile.

Absolutely AWFUL in comparison to the old version

I really, REALLY wanted to like this. I have officially listened to EVERY Good Omens audio adaptation (there are three), as well as seeing the new television show, and this is by far *the worst* out of all the adaptations ever made. It is passionless, read like the narrator is bored, the "characters" are very difficult to tell the difference between and are completely inappropriate, with children sounding like old men (Adam sound like he is fifty...) and ladies sounding like, well, like they're squeaking... The only good thing about this audio version is that it includes the Queen music. That is literally THE ONLY that I liked about this. Oh, and the sound quality compared to the original is awful, too. It utterly, utterly ruins the source material. I am shocked and appalled that the original complete and unabridged audiobook read by Steven Briggs has been removed from sale and replaced with this RUBBISH. If you want a good adaptation, hunt that one down on CD (that is the only way to get it now, from the look of things), or the BBC drama which is short but fun. AVOID THIS, though. It's awful. Seriously. It kills the source material, which I didn't think was possible...

Brilliant humour, quintessentially British

This book is longer than the recent Amazon Prime adaptation and there are some treat moments in it that didn't make it to TV. Fabulous collaboration and shame there won't be another one.
