Not Enjoyable
I like the message behind the collection but I felt that it was not very subtly delivered. It feels contrived and prescriptive. Similar to Perrault's fairytales that warned young girls of the dangers of their sexuality (ie, the Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, etc), this collection has a specific message to tell children, particularly girls - that they are strong, industrious, resourceful, and need not bound by conventions that might tell them otherwise. It's a good sentiment, and one I very much agree with, but it does not flow to the listener in a natural way. Part of the problem is that the stories are too short and are read out as though they are being delivered from a podium on a stage in front of thousands of adoring fans. There is nothing in this that allows the listener to get lost in the narratives, or transports them to far off lands and into the minds and souls of others.
