Publisher's Summary

Josey Wales was the most wanted man in Texas. His wife and child had been lost to pre-civil War destruction and, like Jesse James and other young farmers, he joined the guerrilla soldiers of Missouri-men with no cause but survival and no purpose but revenge.

Love this book. Love this character.

Would you listen to Gone to Texas - A Josey Wales Western again? Why?

I would and I will. Strong character with a very emotional connection.

What other book might you compare Gone to Texas - A Josey Wales Western to and why?

Just a great western with a deep, deep emotion under it all. You will root for this bad guy from start to finish.

Which character – as performed by Chet Williamson – was your favorite?

Chet did great and he can even sing....a little bit.... Great work.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Listen to while driving and I hated getting to work and I looked forward to the drive.

Any additional comments?

Thank God there is a sequel. I want more, more more.

Outstanding!

“Gone to Texas” is outstanding in every way. One actually comes to know the characters with the author’s smooth, flowing prose. The story is full of action and moves at a quick pace. This book is for men who want to hear a story about warriors. A classic!

Gone to Texas and Beyond

Any additional comments?

I've read the book years ago, but listening to it (while driving across the deserts of Utah and Nevada) let me enjoy this familiar tale in a new light. It's a great story made even better by Chet Williamson's reading. I look forward to listening to the sequel.

My Favorite

My favorite story. I love the movie, The Outlaw Josie Wales, but the book, as is usually the case, gives so much more depth and substance. Chet Williamson’s performance was magnificent, as he played each character as a master bard. Without a doubt, the best audio book you’re likely to come across.

Worth a read? I reckon so.

This story has it all: the action of the fight, the brutality of the landscape, the music of the language, the finality of death, and the eternal quality of love. And Chet Williamson with his versatility of voice brings each character and each scene to life. I loved this book so much I wanted to marry it.

One of my favorites...

A solid and enjoyable old western novel with historical roots in the Missouri/Kansas border conflict of the American Civil War. A particularly ugly region of what was already a bloody and vile struggle. The story was brought to life by Clint Eastwood in the movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales." Well worth the read.

Well researched historical novel

If as it said, the characters were all true, this was a masterful way in which to weave a story. Delightful listening!

The movie is very close to the original book.....

....in may ways. The dialogue of the book is the same if slightly more detailed. Worth a listen if you enjoyed the film. I certainly enjoyed it.
