Publisher's Summary
Heroes don't stand for themselves. They stand for others who cannot.
Betrayed by those they'd taken in and narrowly avoiding a disaster of untold proportions, Lyrian and his friends are once again thrust into a fight for their very survival, this time against Carver and his band of murderous adventurers. But as their newfound war quickly reaches a stalemate, both sides find themselves scrambling for a way to break it, while viciously battling one another for every inch of ground that they can steal in the process.
Yet just as Lyrian and the others manage to gain an advantage that could very well end the conflict, they find their world turned upside down as an even greater enemy appears on the horizon. Pushed to the brink, it will take every ounce of cunning and courage they have to find a way to survive.
Assuming they can at all.

3.5 stars... it needed less everything
The book was too long and not in a good way. I don't know what games you all play but my fights even vs bosses don't last hours and I certainly don't want to hear a play by play of multi hour fights. Then there is a lot of talking about stuff about what everybody else is doing. It almost always starts as, "So then I needed to go talk to this group and find out what happened with them" You then get a bunch of really long stories of what happened with lots of classic anime side character comments to make you understand, like "Wow that must have been difficult" or "totally cool your so smart!" or " Wow what an accomplishment." And these descriptions can be really long or if not you get like 5 peoples stories all in a row. My last gripe is that this game isn't fun. It's a really bad job that your paying to do. Let us say you were on that waiting list and just got into the "game" you are lvl 1 and your starting city is in 5 way political turmoil secret civil war and there are no starting areas for you to grind anymore like "go kill 5 snakes" because guilds took over them. You cannot go out and gather materials because the Guilds of everybody in the game before you have taken all the good spots for gathering in order to make money. So you are now forced to join a clan to just play because your faction doesn't care what happens outside of the city walls. No good large clans are taking new players and any other clan that will take you will use you like slave labor and treat you like crap, or you do join a guild with good people but it is small and gets pushed around by larger clans who number in the thousands. You could try and travel to the two other human places but one of them is being attacked on a daily basis by level 27+ players and orcs and you would have to join the town and get worked like a slave and only get 5 hours of sleep (not joking 5 hours of sleep rotations for the town) or you can go to the other, Coldscar, and then be caught up in a guild war between the largest guilds also doing the same thing and then be a slave player to them. OR MAYBE you actually GET ENSLAVED!!! I really want to play this game now!!!!! No actually I don't. If I don't want to play it because it sounds like not fun I certainly don't want to read about it. It does get better after the first 20 hours (so the last 10 hours of the book). The MC finally does stuff, and the actual game comes back like leveling and skills and building new things. But it took way to long for that to happen. The book then ruins the end with a not-epic battle that lasts WAY WAY to long, I had to fast forwarded through most of it (over an hour of this stupid long fight) and just listened to the key points. You know a book is good when you can't put it down, you know a book has too much stuff when you have to take breaks from it because your attention is wandering. This book has wandered away from a "fun, cool, new game where there are some problems", into a "not fun job where you are sleep deprived, have to work 19 hours a day (literally), and can't do what you want to do because everybody is going to mess with your stuff and there isn't anything you can do about it." You also have to hear the characters say over and over how "cool" that is.... it is so not cool though. If this was the first book in the series and as a reader you didn't have the nostalgia of the other books I don't think I would have even finished it. So 3.5 Stars For me on this one. It just wasn't fun to read.

Weak Audiobook
I really liked the previous three books, so I was quite disappointed to read book four. At least 50% of this book was pointless dull filler that any good editor should have struck down well before publishing. This book was so bad that I won’t be giving book 5 a chance.

Review
Overall the Narya at the performance was great Luke Daniels delivers as usual. Overall the story was OK🤷♂️..my biggest issue with this audiobook is that the story was too long. Which is ironic because there was very little progression in the actual storyline. Unfortunately it took almost 2 year for audiobook 4 to come out, by then there has been a flood of Litrpg on the market. And at a much higher quality. This one for me was just a let down. Maybe I’ve been spoiled with the other litrpg that are on the market.

So far so good.
I love the book so far. I've been waiting for it to come out and been. I especially love the beginning of it. it matched me perfectly. Only minor issue was the fact that Ragna's voice is different. But other than that I love the series. I just finished it after starting it day 1 on the road. the book has kept me hooked while driving on the road. and I honestly can't wait for the next series one. hopefully there is one. From start to finish its a great listen. and I honestly wanna try the game that comes with it

as LitRPG's go this series is one of the best, it is not very stat heavy and if you read a lot of litrpg books you start to get tired of Herring them after a while. there is a good pace in this book but it could slow down in some places. long story short if you liked the books before this one you will like this one.
