Publisher's Summary

Why givers - not takers or matchers - win big. Perfect for anyone who enjoyed Quiet or Thinking Fast and Slow.

The motivations behind today's most successful leaders and entrepreneurs come to a simple yet decisive explanation: there are people who give, people who take, people who match and people who fake. Our world is filled with these givers, takers, matchers and fakers. Amazingly, those who succeed (not only personally but for their clients and companies) don't take or match. They give. (Although they're not necessarily philanthropic.)

Give and Take presents the fascinating secrets to givers' success. The results are unequivocal: givers gain big. Jack Welch, Richard Branson, Jon Huntsman Sr. - all of them are givers. In a world in which so many takers, such as Bernard Madoff and Raj Rajaratnam, have ruined lives and reputations, this book will reassure listeners that the real power lies in becoming a giver. Since the vast majority of people aren't born givers, Grant not only presents the case for why givers win, he also offers their hidden strategies for winning.

The book that makes you want to give more!

No we don’t give only because we expect something in return! Giving is part of us because we are others! How giving is and should be at the core of our lives, communities and societies is presented with powerful stories, facts and research. It’s really a great book not only to know more about the mechanism of giving but also why it’s so important both for ourselves and our modern societies. From neuroscience to social consequences Adam Grant offers a precise view on giving - and some of the solutions (end of the book) for our uncertain times. When many turn towards tech and new ideas -the keys for a better future might be just in front of us- generosity, giving and altruism can, and always did change the world. The good news is that many young people naturally and genuinely adopt this perception and ideas. There is hope. Thank you Adam for bringing more light on such essential aspect of everybody’s life.

Too many American sport references

The ideas are good but the constant references to basketball in america in 1970 don’t resonate. It lacks broad international appeal.

I was disappointed

Being in Australia I don’t relate to all the sports related examples - to be honest I stopped listening and actually just skipped to the next chapter.
Some good stuff in there , but just over told in different ways throughout the book. Sorry Adam
I hope it’s just me but I just couldn’t relate .
All the best
