About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

For anyone who has thought that being thinner would make them happier, this book is for you.
In 2017, Alice Liveing, known as Clean Eating Alice, was the UK’s leading personal trainer, she had over half a million followers on Instagram, counted celebrities amongst her clients, appeared on the cover of Women’s Health, and even achieved her third Sunday Times bestseller. She had everything she had ever dreamed of, and more, because as she was recognised as the embodiment of health, but that was the furthest thing from the truth.
Now, having faced a sustained period of disordered eating and exercise addiction that had controlled her life for so long, Alice tells the intimate story of what led to her darkest moments of restriction, the ultimatum that forced her to change, and how she overcame those demons to find true health, happiness and find peace with her body.
Part-memoir, part-manifesto, Alice reveals how we can all move in a way that prioritises how we feel over how we look using her four pillars of fitness: Why, What, When and How. Give Me Strength is a vital, powerful and life-affirming book for any woman who has ever struggled to love their body.

This book is a memoir of Alice. It describes how her previous books - Clean Eating Alice are not what she herself followed. It describes how she has/had a fitness and eating disorder. I’m simply gutted and am now selling her other books. In a way this book exposes that all fitness books are deceptive; we need to do more exercise and/or restrict our diet far more to look the way these fitness models look - which is not sustainable and Alice agrees. Deep down we all know the fitness industry is lying to us but we hang on to the hope that if we follow their exercise programs and diet we will too achieve that body composition. I loved clean eating Alice - those books have great messages and food. This book is about loving your body and not trying to be too small like she did. Blah. Awful. But really this is just a book about being a fraud and having emotional, abusive and eating disorders.
What a shame.
