About this listen
'An enthralling excavation of truth, with a vivid, human heart.' Benjamin Stevenson
Why would my best friend want to destroy my life?
Finn and her best friend, Daphne, have grown up together in the Blue Mountains. Bonded by both having lost a younger sister to suicide, they've always had a close - sometimes too close - friendship. Now in their twenties, their lives have finally started to diverge: Daphne is at university and Finn is working in the Mountains, as well as falling in love with a beautiful newcomer called Magdu.
Unused to sharing Finn, Daphne starts to act up in ways that will allow her to maintain the control over her best friend she's always relished. Then, one fateful day, Finn, Daphne and Magdu all go rock-climbing - and Magdu falls to her death. Is it suicide, or a terrible accident - or something more sinister?
Bold, dramatic and utterly compelling, Girl Falling forces us to confront the stories we tell ourselves about the people we love. Displaying all of Hayley Scrivenor's razor-sharp skills for character, landscape and narrative, this is a breathtaking read.

Couldn’t stop listening!
Absolutely brilliant second book from Hayley Scrivenor. I’ve never listened to an audiobook all the way through in one day, but this book changed that. It’s so smart, so genuine, and so well written. Looking forward to book number three!

Absolutely brilliant 👏👏
Hayley has quickly become a favourite author of mine! I’ve just whizzed through Dirt Town and Girl Falling and absolutely love the rhythm of Hayley’s writing. I would’ve loved another couple of pages at the end but I also acknowledge that it wasn’t needed (I just selfishly wanted more). The ending had me GASPING. All at once I felt heartbreak, frustration, understanding and desperation. I so badly wanted to rewrite the ending so it fit into the perfect little box I had been lead into.
It’s hard to put into words but the dynamics of this friendship (and its unhealthy lack of boundaries) will be so familiar for so many women. The hindsight, the shame, the anger, the confusion. Wanting to make a change but feeling trapped and unable to do anything. The safety in familiarity - even when it’s an unsafe dynamic.
Hayley is a superb storyteller and I cannot wait for the next book!
Sophie’s narration was brilliant. 👌

Brilliant, captivating, relatable
I finished Dirt Town and immediately listened to this. Very engaging, and the plot continues to thicken. Perfection.

This is a gripping story from start to finish. A great look at female friendships and relationships with very unexpected turns. Beautifully read, easy to listen to.

A heart-rending portrait of a toxic friendship
I got so absorbed by this book, though it made me anxious and angry. The ending is beautifully complicated. Perfect for book clubs

Enjoyable
I like the way the author builds a sense of place and how she details friendships. I found the denouement a little disappointing though.

Ending rushed, story whiney
It might be just me but I don’t really want to know when someone has their period. Also, the way the main character was portrayed in how much she loves her girlfriend was so whiney and pathetic. Really this just wasn’t a book that I enjoyed. The narrator was good.
