This book combines two very damaged human beings who manage to help and support each other. It is very violent in parts but this helps the reader understand the depth of their depravity.

I loved this book my top 1 in mafia dark romance

This is finally a dark romance - not a fluff piece making the mafia seem a soft and gentle way of life.

There are substantial trigger warnings for abduction and sexual assault.

I enjoyed the book but had some issues. The non-con between Giovanni and Emmelia is just glossed over and ignored. The author did not do this well at all. Emmelia had a horrific thing happen to her in her past and having Giovanni be abusive and their first few encounters be forced is a bit stomach turning.

The love is not particularly believable either. When she decides she "loves" him, other than being kidnapped, forced, bullied and having about 3 conversations with him there was nothing to warrant these feelings. She thinks of him "saving" her from drowning but he was the one who threw her in the pool against her wishes to begin with. It was contradictions like this - and there are a few - that ruin the story.

Many of the decisions Emmelia makes do not make sense and clearly are done to try and make the story work. At the beginning she seems to be smart, thinking through things. By the end she is just plain stupid.

Giovanni has little redeeming qualities but in his own way he cares I suppose.

The narration was great.

Well what can you say. Go past the language and you get a great story lines. It hook me in so much I'd just had to listen and it had caricatures for perious books in it as well. I'm going to read the whole series. P.S my husband says I'm not a prude anymore LOL

A great story that kept me on the hook the whole time. A traumatise, murdered mob bosses daughter, her messed up sadistic brother and a bossy mob man of her own trying to keep her safe. except Em just has a talent of being in the wrong place at the wrong time or just simply walking right into trouble.

this book is awful, psychopathic, narcissistic behaviour isnt love! Nonconsentual forced sex is rape, coerced sex to save a life is Rape! Sick, disgusting writing perpetuating rape culture as a relationship goal. Nope, no and hell NO!

Just no. While I loved the storyline, the execution was just wrong, sorry. I struggle with non-con because not many authors can do it right and this is not right. If you have any feminism or women's rights in your soul than do not read this book. It will frustrate and infuriate you.
My biggest issue was the H constantly saying he won't hurt her yet he continued to force himself on her- Just because you do it gently doesn't mean it's not rape. Meanwhile the h was gang raped years earlier so she knows she just has to lie there until they've had their fill. This would've been better if it was FTB.
The narrators were brilliant! I haven't heard them before and I absolutely loved listening to them. I think they were the only reason I kept going.
