...the themes of friendship and sacrifice are strong, and the descriptions of hunting, tracking and living in the world of six thousand years ago are as vivid and as interesting as ever... I'm going to miss the Forest and the clans now that the series is over. The Chronicles of Ancient Darkness are aimed at younger teens but I still love them aged nearly-sixteen, and I don't think I'll outgrow them any times soon.

These books are wonderful examples of how children's books at their best are motored by brilliant, seamless plotting. There is no waste- everything is taut, clean, efficient... There is a beautifully realised sense of an organic culture depicted in these books, and good and evil are measured in relation to how much these characters respect their environment
I also think that the most memorable part is when Torak is with the Soul Eater
